A woman in Australia is finally free after allegedly being chained up by her boyfriend for months. The woman, 32, hasn’t been identified for protection. He allegedly didn’t want her to cheat on him or leave.
According to PEOPLE magazine, she was able to escape when he took her to an ATM. She reportedly hid in a pharmacy and sought help from a customer before making her way to the police station to file a report.
The woman had signs of abuse, including chain marks, broken ribs, a fractured eye socket, and multiple bruises. She claimed that her boyfriend chained her to the bed with a padlock for months and only unchained her to eat or use the bathroom.
