‘Bringing Up Bates’ Kelly Jo Bates Has Urgent Prayer Request For Son
Bringing Up Bates alum Kelly Jo Bates took to social media to beg for prayers for one of her sons in danger. The urgent request comes just as she’s expecting more grandbabies. Keep reading to find out what’s going on with the Bates family members and why her son needs prayers.
Bates Family Pregnancies
Erin Bates was in the hospital for almost a month after giving birth to her seventh child in August. Her siblings, including Lawson Bates, rallied and helped out with Erin’s other six children while she was hospitalized. She and baby Henry are home now. They’re recovering well from the traumatic birth.
Lawson Bates and his wife of three years revealed earlier this year that they are expecting their second child this winter. They welcomed their first son, William, in 2024 after suffering a devastating miscarriage previously.
Tiffany and Lawson Bates moved to Hollywood, California, over the summer and found out that she might need a C-section for the second baby. She was upset because no one in his family has ever had a C-section.
Kelly Jo’s prayer request wasn’t about any of her unborn grandchildren. Tiffany Bates and the baby are doing well, but she’s likely just as stressed as her mother-in-law and requires prayers.
Bringing Up Bates Kelly Jo Bates Needs Prayers For Son
“I’ve left the country for an emergency rescue/relief operation with @mediccorps We are directly in the path of Hurricane Melissa facilitating critical evacuations! PRAY for all involved and those in serious danger right now,” Lawson Bates wrote on Instagram. His mom, Kelly Jo Bates, shared the post on Facebook and asked for urgent prayers.
The former reality star has experience in helping people. He previously served as a Reserve Deputy for the police in Clinton, Tennessee. He also has an EMT certificate. He’s volunteered with Medic Corps for years.
In 2011, he went on a mission trip in Guatemala to assist in a house-building project. He also handed out food baskets and helped at an orphanage. Lawson Bates was in Puerto Rico in 2017 to help with relief efforts after Hurricanes Harvey and Maria.

He’s more than equipped to handle the job, but asked for prayers for those affected by Hurricane Melissa, which is currently making its way up the coast toward the U.S.
Fans of the Bates family responded to the prayer request and thanked Lawson for helping where he was needed the most. One fan wrote, “Lawson, thank you for always being willing to help people in need!!”
Another added, “Please stay safe Lawson and your doing a wonderful job helping others.”
Lawson Bates and other Medic Corps volunteers will continue to go where they’re needed the most, despite the dangers.
