When looking for a new dog, many people want to ensure the animal they are choosing is not prone to a lot of health issues. So, we’ve compiled a list featuring ten of the healthiest dog breeds to choose from.

  1. Australian Cattle Dogs are intelligent, have a great work ethic, and good stamina. They are very resilient and, therefore, are one of the healthiest dogs in existence. However, they need lots of exercise to stay in tip-top shape.
  2. Beagles are another healthy dog breed. They generally only tend to get eye and hip problems, but those normally do not occur until later in life.
  3. Chihuahuas are generally healthy and can live to be nearly 20 years old. If they do develop issues, it is usually associated with their eyes or heart.
  4. The greyhound is one of the fastest dogs in the world and also one of the healthiest. They do need lots of exercise, but these fast creatures can live up to 13 years old. If anything, they are at risk for gastric issues and should be monitored while eating.
  5. Poodles are another healthy dog breed. They generally live long lives and only develop minor health issues as they grow older.
  6. Basenji dogs are very intelligent. These dogs are unique in that they act like cats to a certain degree. They are generally very healthy. However, if they do develop issues, it could be something such as hypothyroidism and hip problems.
  7. Border Collies are popular dogs. They are highly intelligent and overall have good health. If problems do arise in these dogs, some can get deafness, collie eye anomaly, and epilepsy.
  8. Bichon Frise dogs are small and generally healthy as well. If they are going to develop problems, the most common ones among this breed to look for are luxating patella, hip dysplasia, and cataracts.
  9. Dachshunds are a popular breed as well. They can get some health issues such as intervertebral disc disease, epilepsy, and diabetes. However, they are good pets, and other than these issues, they are fairly healthy. These dogs are very loyal and lovable, but can also be stubborn.
  10. Miniature Schnauzers are very healthy animals. They can live to be nearly 15 years old and they do remain healthy. However, they do need exercise and to be socialized at a young age.

All of these are perfect for someone who wants to add a somewhat healthy breed to their family.  Have you had any of these breeds?
