When families go grocery shopping these days, it seems many are looking for convenience over saving some money. However, with inflation continuing to be at an all-time high, people are looking for ways to cut costs and be more efficient. Below are 8 grocery store purchases that are a complete waste of money.

  1. Pre-cut fruits and veggies are a complete waste of money. Buy the products whole and cut them yourself. You will not only save money you will also get more than you would in prepackaged options.
  2. Bottled water is another waste. In the end, you will be more environmentally friendly and save money if you choose to purchase a water filter for your home.
  3. Microwavable Pancakes are also not very smart. It would be much more cost-effective to make a big batch of pancakes and freeze some yourself.
  4. Single-serve yogurt cups are also not very cost-effective. It’s better to buy the big single containers and scoop out what you need for a serving. This will save money and extra waste.
  5. Bakery goods such as muffins are usually sold in packs of 4. They may look good, but a big batch can be made at home instead of wasting a dollar or more per serving. Making your own can go a long way in feeding larger numbers of people and saving money.

  6. Snack-sized packs are often bought for school lunches or even to take to work as snacks. However, it costs a pretty penny for these individual packages that really do not give you much at all anyway. It’s much better to buy big bags of chips or boxes of cookies and package them in sandwich bags yourself.
  7. Name-brand cereal and chips are also often purchased when the generic counterpart is probably the exact same ingredients, with more volume and way less cost.
  8. Frozen dinners can be a quick and convenient way to provide dinner for the family. However, the price paid for meals packed full of preservatives and who knows what else can be way more expensive than just grabbing ingredients and making the meal from scratch yourself.
