Daycare Staffer Murders Nonverbal Child With Weighted Blanket
A Missouri daycare staffer murdered one of their nonverbal toddlers with the help of a weighted blanket. This is becoming more prevalent and is terrifying, given that parents should be able to trust the employees. So, when did this happen, and what are the charges? Keep reading for more details.
Daycare Staffer Murders Nonverbal Child
Nursery school and daycare employees are supposed to be trusted with children as if they were the parents. They are to be loving, nurturing, and provide guidance, but that is not happening as much anymore. It seems the staff is not trained properly or lacks caring; therefore, kids are consistently getting hurt. Such was the case at Poppy’s Playhouse 2, where Conrad Ashcraft, 3, was murdered by a daycare director. Her name was Tiffany Hedrick, and the forty-year-old used a weighted blanket to take his life. This all went down on May 16th, 2025, but she was not indicted until August 14th.
Conrad was suffocated by the director when she lay him “face down under a weighted blanket with his arms immobilized.” It was his mother who discovered him when she came to pick up her son, and his father filed a $25K suit. He wanted both the director and the owner to pay for his son’s wrongful death. Allegedly, Tiffany Hedrick was aware of what she was doing and knew that she could harm and hurt Conrad. Regardless, she went on with what she was doing and now, he is no longer here.
The weighted blanket weighed over eighteen pounds, which was more than enough to restrain Conrad and cause his demise. Furthermore, after she restrained Conrad, Tiffany paid no attention to him until it was time for her to leave for the day. By then, it was 2 pm. To add to all of this, Conrad was autistic and nonverbal, but he is remembered fondly with a love for “swimming, Toy Story, Ms. Rachel, Cocomelon, and the movie Cars.”
No Bond
As of now, Tiffany Hedrick is being held without bond and has been charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death, armed criminal action, and second-degree murder. However, she is denying any wrongdoing and is saying that she is not guilty. Her lawyers are ready to defend her and her innocence. Followers of this sad daycare tragedy have expressed their frustration with the establishment and staff:
- Subdue a child so they go to sleep? That’s crazy. That adorable little boy 😭. I feel terrible for the parents.
- I live in this community and it’s been a nightmare for the little guy’s family and so, so sad. 😭 I hope she gets the book thrown at her. Our county turned the case over to the neighboring county, which I am glad they did.
This is horrible, and the family is sickened by the negligence of the center. They failed to check on Conrad and had no idea he had suffocated or passed.
