A daycare worker has been charged after allegedly breaking a toddler’s collarbone. This all went down in Ohio when a four-year-old supposedly fell over a cot. Yet, that proved to be false, so what has the worker been charged with? Keep reading for more details.
Daycare Worker Charged After Breaking Toddler’s Collarbone
Daycares should be a safe space for families and children, and the employees are supposed to be trusted. They are believed to be trained professionals who care about and love children. Unfortunately, that does not always happen, and kids get harmed. Recently, in Ohio, Mary Stewart was accused of hurting a four-year-old child. They were being taken care of by Mary when they ended up with a broken collarbone. In May 2025, this suspicious accident occurred, and the family wondered what had happened. Alexis Higham, the toddler’s mother, was told that her daughter “tripped and fell over a cot.”
However, when the daughter told her mom what happened, it was a completely different tale. She explained that she had been picked up and thrown on the cot by a woman, presumably Mary Stewart. They spent upwards of five hours in the emergency room when it was proven she had a broken clavicle. She removed her child from the daycare and has not been back. Mary has since been charged with felonious assault and endangering children, after an investigation was conducted into her behavior. The biggest problem was that the facility failed to implement working cameras.
Moreover, had there been operational cameras in the classrooms, Mary’s behavior could have been monitored. Then, this situation may not have gone as far as it did. The only reason the mother has chosen to speak out on the incident is to help other parents. Furthermore, she does not want to protect those who are hurting the children. They do not deserve to be protected any longer, and her attorney agreed. Other daycares could learn how to properly protect their children from others’ mishaps. However, it is sad that it has had to come this far.
Abhorrent Behavior
This behavior is now becoming the norm for daycares and their employees. They lack training and accountability, making this a chronic problem. This same issue occurred elsewhere when a teacher was accused of harming her children. Fortunately, they had cameras in the facility, so there was proof of the abuse, and a firing as well as an arrest could be made. As of now, it is unclear what will happen to Mary Stewart or if she has officially done this to other toddlers. Luckily, Alexis Higham is bringing awareness to the cause, but the name of the daycare has yet to be revealed.
