You often read news stories about mothers who go to great lengths to protect their kids, especially their sons. But one mom, 61, took the side of her daughter-in-law, 30, to help kill and dismember her own son. Why would any mother do such a thing?

Mailyn Castro Monsalvo, 30, called the Italian police on July 25th to confess to murdering her husband, Alessandro Venier, 35. When the police arrived at the home the couple shared with his mother and infant daughter, they found Alessandro Venier’s dismembered remains in a bin in the basement.
His mother, Lorena Venier, 61, took the blame for her son’s murder and dismemberment. She told the police that her daughter-in-law was only involved in moving the body.
Lorena Venier claimed that her daughter-in-law had been begging her to help kill Alessandro Venier for months after the birth of their baby.
Both mother and daughter-in-law alleged physical abuse and expressed concern for the baby’s safety. Alessandro Venier reportedly did not go easily. Several outlets shared the many attempts at murder it took before he finally died.
His mother reportedly first attempted to kill him with a sleeping pill at 5:30 p.m. When that didn’t work, she tried to poison lemonade with a deadly medicine and suffocate him with a pillow. That didn’t work either. He fought back.
The third time was the charm. Alessandro Venier reportedly died after being choked by his own shoelaces.
Mom Details Horrifying Dismemberment
The mother, 61, allegedly killed her son because his wife was “violently beaten, insulted, and repeatedly threatened with death.” When she confronted her son, he reportedly punched her in the back.
Fed up with the abuse, Lorena Venier admittedly helped murder him. And then she dismembered him. According to reports, she’s a former nurse. She initially planned to dismember him and leave his body in the mountains. However, that plan changed and the dismembered body was put in a bin in the basement.
Her daughter-in-law’s only involvement was helping to move the body and “covered him in lime,” Lorena Venier.
