Man Kills Daughter-In-Law Over Divorce Filing
A Chicago man has been accused of killing his daughter-in-law after she filed for divorce from his son. It seems he took the breakup far worse and decided to take action. So, what exactly happened, and has he been officially charged for his crime? Keep reading for more details.
Man Kills Daughter-In-Law Over Divorce Filing
Divorce is never easy for anyone, especially the main parties involved. Yet, what happens when an in-law is the one so hurt by what is going down that they take action? Such is the case in Chicago, where a man killed his daughter-in-law after she filed for divorce from his son. On July 25th, Roland Schmidt was arrested after he was suspected of trying to take his DIL’s life. They were at a Marriott Hotel when he shot Christine Moyer in the head, and she was taken to a local hospital.
Once at the hospital, Christine ended up passing away at just forty-five. As for her father-in-law, he was taken down by an onlooker and eventually taken away by authorities. The murder weapon, a gun, was found at the scene of the crime. Those who were at the hotel heard the shot and then people screaming, so they rushed away as soon as they could. Soon enough, the ambulance arrived to transport Christine away. Once the authorities spoke to Roland, they learned why he did this:
“Through the investigation, it was discovered Schmidt was upset with Moyer over divorce paperwork which was filed against his son.”
Roland was charged with felony first-degree murder, and he appeared in court on Monday, July 28th, 2025. His mugshot looks quite stoic, and he appears unremorseful for what he did. As for followers of this story, they could not believe he would do this to his daughter-in-law over a divorce filing. Others felt that Roland was doing too much for his son and not letting him feel any pain. It is unknown if his son even knew what was going to happen.
A Horrible Situation
This is a horrible situation, and it never should have happened. It is unclear whether Roland Schmidt’s goal was to kill Christine Moyer or if he just wanted to scare her. Either way, she is no longer here in a tragic turn of events, as both Roland and Christine were at the hotel for a wedding. That was when he followed, shot, and killed his daughter-in-law. No one has stated if she left any children behind or what her ex-husband had to say about this. Yet, followers of the story were very verbal:

Now the women who actually agreed to marry that slob finally had enough of the golden child family dynamics and wanted out, but daddy has to protect his boy from accountability!
