A teacher in New Jersey has been accused of sexually abusing a student over a four-year period. A New Jersey Teacher Faces Three Felony Counts Concerning Her Relationship With A Student

The teacher was indicted earlier this month on various charges. These included first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in the second-degree.

At the time, investigators alleged that Caron began sexually assaulting the victim when he was only eleven years old. The abuse is believed to have lasted over a four-year period.

According to People, the teacher was identified as Laura Caron, 34. In a probable cause statement obtained by the publication, Caron gave birth to a daughter in 2019, when the victim was 13 and she was only 27. Reportedly, the alleged victim’s sister told investigators that her brother claimed to be the father’s child.

The Victim & His Siblings Were Reportedly Living At The Teacher’s Home For A Time

Prior to her arrest, Caron was a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School. She had purportedly met the alleged victim as a student in her class.

Reportedly, the victim and his siblings would stay at Caron’s home for times with their parents’ permission. The alleged victim reportedly lived with Caron in 2016 for reasons that have not been disclosed.

A press release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office also issued the following statement: “The charges stem from an extensive investigation conducted by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit, which revealed that between 2016 and 2020, Ms. Caron engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student who had been residing in her home during that time period.”

If convicted, Caron faces up to 40 years if convicted on all three charges. She was previously booked into the Cape May County Correctional Facility during an earlier arrest earlier this year. At the time, she was able to post bail within a few days.

Court records have shown that Caron’s next day in court will be on July 16, 2025. At this time, she hasn’t entered a plea deal. Her attorney has also not responded to a request for comment.

6abc Philadelphia previously covered the story of Caron’s initial arrest back in January. Around the time, it was noted the story came to light when the alleged victim’s father noted on social media how Caron’s child resembled both him and his son.
