February 13 marks the fourth anniversary of the day Abby Williams and Libby German disappeared in the small town of Delphi, Indiana. One day later, a search party found their bodies. Dubbed “the Delphi murders,” the case is still unsolved to this day. Let’s take a look at what we know, and the answers we still need to bring justice for Libby and Abby. Keep in mind that police are still keeping a lot of evidence a secret for now.
Why Aren’t Police Saying More About The Delphi Murders?
Although authorities still don’t know who hurt the girls, they do have a rough idea of his appearance. Libby German actually briefly recorded the killer on her phone. Authorities admitted they have only publically released a short snippet of the video and audio file. There is more to the video, but they aren’t willing to release the whole thing yet.
“When we have the person we want, we want to know what they know about the case,” Sgt. Kim Riley of the Indiana State Police told IndyStar last year. “That’s why we’ve held back on the information that we’ve given out.”
In the video file, you can clearly see a man shuffling towards the girl up on the Monon High Bridge. The public dubbed him “bridge guy.” While we still don’t know much about him, the police say they are confident he is responsible for the Delphi murders case. Authorities released an audio file where you can also clearly hear the man say, “Guys… down the hill.” They believe he was getting Abby and Libby’s attention, then directing them off the bridge and down the hill where he could overpower them.
Authorities also released a sketch of the suspect. Above all else, authorities do not want people to circulate the sketch image on social media side by side with random people. This slows the case down and causes unnecessary fear, panic, and baseless accusations. In a 2019 press conference, Doug Carter, superintendent of the Indianapolis State Police, said they strongly believe the bridge guy is either a Delphi resident or someone who is intimately familiar with the area.
In spite of the evidence, there is still a lot of information the police never made public. For example, the public still doesn’t know how the girls died. There are many rumors that circulate online, but nothing has ever been proven. This is a detail the police believe they need to keep quiet to uphold the integrity of the case.
Is There Any New Evidence In The Case?
In short, no, there isn’t any new evidence. However, an app called CrimeDoor features a 3D rendering of the case. Libby’s sister praised it on Twitter and hopes it could bring answers.

Each year around the anniversary of the Delphi murders, authorities held a press conference. However, there isn’t one this year. It could be due to the pandemic, but others grow worried the case is getting cold. Superintendent Carter says ISP received tens of thousands of tips and the case is far from cold, but many members of the public remain skeptical.
The Indiana State Police did issue a short news release that said authorities were still doing everything in their power to track down Abby and Libby’s killer.
“We continue to actively investigate all tips and leads we receive by phone and email,” it said. “This type of violent crime cannot and will not go unanswered.”
Abby Williams and Libby German would have been seniors this year. They should have been enjoying time with friends and making plans for their futures.
