Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift have fans convinced they’re secretly married. First, it was the engagement rumors. Now it’s upgraded to marriage rumors. Fans think Taylor dropped clues in her new album, Evermore.

Her new indie-pop album dropped on Friday, December 11. Fans think that the singer-songwriter and her boyfriend of four years got married in secret. They feel that certain lyrics on the album hint at a possible marriage between the two. It’s not a stretch since the singer is good at keeping secrets.

She dropped her surprise album, Folklore, in July. It was a secret that only her boyfriend and her family knew.

How the marriage rumors started

The Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn marriage rumors started when the singer teased a photo from her new music video “Willow.” In her social media post, she wore a cream-colored evening gown that looked like a wedding dress. Now that Evermore is out, fans are already convinced that there was a secret wedding between Taylor and Joe.

It has to do with the lyric in the track “Ivy.” In the song, she croons, “So tell me to run/Or, dare to sit and watch what we’ll become/And drink my husband’s wine.” Fans noticed the word “husband” and speculated that Taylor and Joe got married in a secret ceremony.

Joe Alwyn’s family refuse to speak

The MailOnline spoke exclusively to Joe Alwyn’s parents. Interestingly enough, they refused to speak on the marriage rumors. The family of the British actor refused to quash the rumors that Joe Alwyn got secretly married to Taylor Swift. One member of his family laughed and said: “I’m sorry, I’m not going to say anything.”

This response sent fans into a tizzy. They claim this response isn’t a denial of the rumors. Some of them even think that she has a secret daughter named Willow, given that it’s one of the track listings.

“Honestly at this point, I won’t even be surprised if taylor swift announces her marriage and tells us she’s had a baby girl named willow in the willow,” one fan wrote.

Taylor previously told her fans that she “just kept writing” music following the release of Folklore. She couldn’t wait to share the new music and video for her first single. The singer also claims that her albums are all about “escapism” and “imaginary/not imaginary tales.” Folklore and Evermore are her least personal albums yet, but that hasn’t stopped the speculations about her relationship.

Taylor Swift addressed the rumors before

The “Shake It Up” singer confirmed the fans’ theories that her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, used the pseudonym William Bowery as a songwriting credit on Folkore. During her interview with Entertainment Weekly, Taylor also revealed she quarantined with him while watching classic movies. Back in April, Joe shared photos of himself at Taylor’s home and with her beloved cats. The couple has kept their long-term relationship private for the most part.

Taylor also debunked the rumors. She referred to him as her “boyfriend” when mentioning who knew she was writing Folklore.

“It was weird because I had never made an album and not played it for my girlfriends or told my friends,” Taylor explained. “The only people who knew were the people that I was making it with, my boyfriend, my family, and then my management team. So that’s the smallest number of people I’ve ever had to know about something.”

While Taylor didn’t expect to make a new album during quarantine, watching movies with Joe inspired her. So, that puts a rest to the rumors for now. What are your thoughts? Sound off below.
