Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton shared their 2021 wishes. On Friday, December 25, they took to Instagram to share a special message with their followers. In their lengthy social media message, they hope for a “better 2021,” which is super-relatable. For the first time in several decades, the British Royal Family won’t be celebrating Christmas together.

Kate and William acknowledged that Christmas Day is different for people in the U.K. Millions of Britons entered the strict Tier 4 restrictions just days before the holiday. That means that many have been forced to change their holiday plans amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Read on to see what the couple had to say.

Prince William and Kate Middleton share heartfelt message

On Christmas Day, the couple shared their well wishes with their followers and the rest of the U.K. But they didn’t want to share a typical Christmas message. Instead, the couple paid their respects to the healthcare workers and essential workers. They also acknowledged those who are without their families this year.

“This Christmas our thoughts are with those of you who are spending alone, those of you who are grief stricken from the loss of a loved one and those of you on the frontline who are somehow mustering the energy to put your own lives on hold and at risk to look after the rest of us,” the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wrote on Instagram. “Wishing you a merry Christmas doesn’t feel right this year, so instead we’re wishing for a better 2021.”

The coupe ended their message by providing resources “for those who are struggling today,” adding, “there is support out there if you need it.” The photos they chose are of people who struggled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They also shared the same message on Twitter.

Earlier this month, the British Royals admitted they were struggling what to do during the holiday season. They went on a two-day Christmas cheer tour across England, Scotland, and Wales. William told students in Cardiff: “It’s difficult to know what to do for the best.”

How they’re celebrating Christmas Day

Prince William and Kate William are having a quiet Christmas. They are looking forward to spending time with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Their children have returned home from school and they look forward to being a family together again.

A second insider said that all three kids wrote their letters to Santa in November.

“It’s their favorite time of the year,” the insider told Us Weekly last month. “In fact, they’ve already written their list for Santa and are nagging William and Kate to put up the Christmas tree.”

The couple has come under fire earlier this month. The family attended a puppet show at London’s Palladium Theater. Some royal fans criticized them for not wearing masks during the event. Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, will celebrate Christmas at Windsor Castle due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
