Man Goes Viral After Saying Ex’s Name During Wedding Vows

A lot of work goes into making a wedding a special day for the bride and groom. However, one man’s slip of the tongue ended up turning his nuptials into a viral moment. Accidentally referring to his bride by his ex’s name, many commenters were reminded of a famous sitcom moment.

The Groom’s Slip Of The Tongue Went Viral In A TikTok Video

A couple in Bedfordshire recently shared a hiccup at their wedding with viewers on TikTok. The two celebrated their nuptials in October 2023 at a registry office.

According to The Daily Mail, the bride and groom were identified as Rebecca Fildes and Andrew Fildes. In a recent TikTok video, Rebecca shared the wedding blunder with a caption reading, “When your new husband calls you his ex-girlfriend’s name.”

As the couple said their vows, after Andrew was told to repeat Rebecca’s full name, he accidentally called her by her middle name, “Sarah.” While this was part of her full name, the publication shared that “Sarah” was also the name of his ex-girlfriend of 15 years.

Rebecca herself also explained the situation more in the comments to the video. One commenter noted, “Not really the ex if it’s her middle name,” with Rebecca herself explaining, “His ex is called Sarah.”

Looking back at the moment, Andrew admitted, “It’s the worst nightmare saying my ex’s name. But, to be fair, it’s Rebecca’s second name. So, I got her name all jumbled up when I was talking.”

Andrew also called what happened a “real-life Ross and Rachel moment.” This referred to a famous moment from the sitcom, Friends. Throughout the show, Ross and Rachel served as the basis of a famous “will-they-or-won’t-they” storyline. At one point in the show, Ross was set to marry another character, Emily. In the episode, “The One with Ross’s Wedding,” Ross accidentally refers to Emily as “Rachel” during his wedding vows, effectively killing the relationship.

Things Ended Up Working Out Better For Rebecca & Andrew Than For Ross & Emily

Fortunately for Andrew, Rebecca had a good laugh about his real-life mix-up. Andrew continued, “I wasn’t even aware of it when I said it. Rebecca just looked at me and I thought ‘what have I said wrong’ and she corrected me.”

“My brother put his hand on his face and my son shook his head. And I thought ‘I’ve clearly got something wrong. It’s just one of those things but it’s quite a common name. Although it’s my ex, we’ve been separated for 10 years.”

Andrew shared he was certainly grateful over Rebecca’s reaction. He noted, “I was glad she saw the funny side. She loves to take the p*** out of me for it and it comes up quite regularly. I don’t take it too seriously but it’s still embarrassing.” Despite what happened, he still called the day the “best day” in his life.

For her part, Rebecca shared, “I just laughed it off and we still laugh about it. I keep saying he owes me a proper wedding now, where he gets my name right.”
