One Woman Admitted That Spaghetti Had Put Her Relationship Into Question

One woman recently took to social media to ask commenters for their thoughts as she was contemplating her relationship. During the conversation, the 35-year-old woman shared that what appeared to be a simple pasta dinner could impact her marriage with her 34-year-old wife.

The woman shared that she and her wife “usually cook separately.” As she explained, the poster likes to prepare meals ahead of time, while her wife prefers things to be made fresh.

The woman admitted she and her wife occasionally did make and enjoy dinner together, but shared it wasn’t “often.” She then discussed one night in which she asked her wife if she wanted any frozen fish she planned to heat up.

The posted then went for a half-hour walk. When she returned, she saw that her spouse was cooking spaghetti. According to the poster, “She said she was starting to get hungry, [and] so started cooking.”

However, the poster noted, “I just assumed she was making some for both of us, since I was going to make something for her.” She soon realized that she was wrong.

“She literally made a single plate of spaghetti for just herself. I don’t even know how you do that. Any time I make pasta, I always end up with way more than I thought.”

At the time, the woman admitted this made her feel “really hurt and uncared for,” but initially wanted to let it go. However, she admitted that it still bothered her even after a week.

The woman explained, “I’m realizing this event is really just a metaphor for our whole relationship. Stuff like this happens all the time and this is just the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

Some Felt That She Was Overreacting, Others Thought This Could Reflect A ‘Pattern’ Of Deeper Issues

Commenters were then asked about what they thought about the situation. Some felt that the woman should communicate with her wife. Others felt like this reflected deeper issues, especially if this was a recurring issue.

As one fan explained, “That seems annoying, but you’re overreacting if it’s not part of a pattern of behavior. Talk to her.” The original poster shared, “No, it totally is part of a pattern, it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back kind of thing.”

Another person shared a lengthier piece of advice. They wrote, “”I think you may be overreacting to the situation, but it sounds like you guys have deeper issues. Maybe try to steer the relationship towards more intimacy and partnership.”

The commenter shared that “the status quo” appeared to be that the woman and her wife were “each responsible for your own food usually,” and that “you expressed you wanted fish, left, and she ended up hungry and making herself food.” Ultimately, they felt, “I don’t see being upset about it.”
