Helicopter Rescues Two Trapped Hikers In Dramatic Video

Two hikers were recently rescued by a helicopter after being trapped by rising tides while at a remote California beach. Their rescue was even shared in a dramatic video on social media. Since then, many have been commenting on what happened, including people who were familiar with the helicopter that saved the day.

The Hikers Were Cut Off From Their Exit Route By Rising Tides

The two hikers were recently stranded on a remote beach near Elephant Rock in the Point Reyes National Seashore near San Francisco on Saturday, August 2. At the time, rising tides had cut them off from their exit route.

The Marin County Fire Department was contacted in the hopes of rescuing the pair. It was decided that a helicopter, Henry-1, was needed for the rescue. Officials claimed that there was no way of reaching the two by land or sea.

The following Sunday, details of the rescue were shared on Facebook, including a statement and a video of the incident. As a statement shared, “The Henry-1 Tactical Flight Officer/EMT was inserted to the beach, where they secured each hiker into ‘hot seat’ rescue devices for aerial extraction.”

The two hikers were then extracted together and brought to personnel from the Marin County Fire Department. As the statement explained, “Thanks to the seamless teamwork between Henry-1 and Marin County Fire, both hikers were safely rescued with no injuries reported. A great example of multi-agency coordination and skilled execution!”

With the story being shared on social media, many commenters responded to the viral story. A few still had questions over why the hikers were in the area in the first place.

On social media, one commenter came to the hiker’s defense, noting that these were accidents. As they wrote, “No one expects to have a natural emergency occur when going out, generally. That’s why they are referred to as emergency/rescue services.”
