Plastic Surgeon Resorts To Colleague’s Murder To Save Face

A plastic surgeon based in Nottingham, England, resorted to murdering a colleague in an attempt to save face. So, why did he feel that this was necessary, and did he receive a decent sentence for the crime he committed? Keep reading for more details.
Plastic Surgeon Resorts To Colleague’s Murder To Save Face
Being a plastic surgeon can come with a level of prestige, but that is true for many medical professionals. Unfortunately, an England-based doctor resorted to murder when a colleague knew too much. Doctor Peter Brooks killed his co-worker and medic, Graeme Perks. This allegedly happened as Brooks had a disciplinary hearing coming up, and he felt that Perks was in the way. In January 2021, Brooks broke into Perks’ home, poured gasoline all over the ground, and stabbed him. Fortunately, Perk survived despite police saying he should have died:
“His victim, a man in his 60s, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.”
They went on to add that his damage was “so severe that 95% of people in a similar condition would be expected to die.”

Perks was a former plastic surgeon who had since retired. More so, he was a witness at Brooks’ disciplinary meeting. Therefore, he posed a threat, but Brooks was not that careful when it came to hiding evidence. His blood was found at the door, showing that he forced himself into the home. The police went on to add in their report:
“CCTV footage was used to prove that Brooks left his home shortly before the attack and returned after carrying it out. Further damning evidence was also found inside his garage, where officers found his blood, a container of petrol in his bicycle pannier, matches and a lighter.”

In a twist, Perks did not feel bad toward the aggressor and stated that he wished the family well. The judge noted that Brooks, as a plastic surgeon, knew exactly what he was doing. He understood the severity of burns and stabbed his victim in a vicious manner:
“You [Brooks] must have had substantial professional experience of treating those who have suffered appalling and painful burns, and yet you attempted to set a fire in the middle of the night intending to kill your former colleague and to endanger the lives of any other occupants as they lay sleeping in their beds. You were a trained surgeon, and yet you plunged a knife into your colleague’s body, passing through his liver, his pancreas, his duodenum and his inferior vena cava with the same murderous intent.”
It was clear that Brooks was trying to end Perks’ life, and there was no other way around his crime. In the end, Brooks was sentenced to twenty-two years but now must serve 17 years and 223 days. This is because he has already served time already so it was a credit.
He Could Have Succeeded
Doctor Peter Brooks could have succeeded in killing his fellow plastic surgeon. However, they had an incredible team helping Graeme Perks, and he was extremely calm. Therefore, he pulled through and can go on to live his life. It is sad that Brooks thought this was the solution, but he did not win in the end.
Are you shocked that Perks survived the stabbing and burn attempt? More so, does it surprise you that Brooks is only serving 22 years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
