Dogs are one of the most popular pets in countries around the world, especially in the United States. Everyone always talks about being a cat mom, but what about the dog moms out there? With so many choices when it comes to welcoming a four-legged friend into your home, which are the top ten breeds for women?

10 Dog Breeds That Are Perfect For Women

  1. Labrador Retriever – The Labrador Retriever was named the most popular dog in the U.S. for over 30 years. While Labrador Retrievers look similar, they have different coats and temperaments. Both are loving breeds known to be trained easily.
  2. Yorkie – Yorkies are among the most popular small breeds. They were originally bred to hunt rats, but after hanging out with royalty, Yorkies are now considered one of the most elegant dog breeds.
  3. Boxer – Boxers are known as fiercely loyal dogs who will protect their owners with their lives. They’re also very energetic and require a lot of exercise.
  4. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are another small and regal dog breed. They are one of the friendliest breeds.
  5. French Bulldog – The French Bulldog replaced the Lab as the most popular dog. They’re great companion animals but they’re known for their breathing problems, which can be costly at the vet.
  6. Weimaraner – Weimaraners are known as hunting dogs but they are huge, clumsy babies.

  7. Dachshund – Affectionately known as “wiener” dogs, these four-legged friends are small but have huge personalities to make up for their small size.
  8. Great Dane – Who said women should only own small dog breeds? Great Danes are another massive breed that isn’t aware of their own size.
  9. Beagle – Beagles are known for their happy-go-lucky nature that makes them lovable and easy to train.
  10. Labradoodle – Labradoodles are a cross between Labs and Poodles. Part of their popularity is due to being hypoallergenic. However, they are also unbelievably sweet and nurturing dogs.

Some women may prefer larger breeds to act as a security system.

Adopting Vs. Breeders

Whether you’ve been trying to find a furry companion, you’ve likely heard the phrase “adopt, don’t shop.” The slogan is meant to encourage people to adopt from a shelter instead of purchasing a purebred dog from a breeder. Unfortunately, it is often used to shame people from purchasing from a breeder.

However, if you’re looking for a specific breed, it can be difficult to find one in shelters. As long as the dogs are well-treated by their new owners, does it really matter where they came from?
