Michael Malley

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been playing on a different level over the past couple of weeks. Now, his dominating performances put him in the first spot in the NBA 2021 MVP Race. He replaced LeBron James, who’s been playing at an MVP level as well. 76ers head coach Doc Rivers also opened up about Embiid’s recent performances. Fans also have high hopes of Embiid bringing his team to the finals this year.

NBA: Joel Embiid Leads The 2021 MVP Race

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid replaced Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James in the first spot of the NBA 2021 MVP Race. Apparently, Embiid has been dominating in their recent run. He’s averaging 31.5 points per game in 11 games. Unfortunately, the 76ers lost to their recent game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, Embiid scored 42 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists in 40 minutes of playing. Meanwhile, Embiid’s backcourt partner Ben Simmons has been playing well lately. He scored 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists in their recent loss against the Cavaliers.

Meanwhile, 76ers head coach Doc Rivers shared his thoughts about Embiid’s improvements. “It’s funny, you know he’s big, but you don’t realize how big he is, and his post-game is so much more efficient than I remember it”, Rivers said. On the other hand, the reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently in the number 8 spot of the 2021 MVP Race.

Will Embiid Bring His Team To The Finals?

The Philadelphia 76ers had several disappointing playoff runs in recent years. Back in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals, the team was defeated in Game 7 by Kawhi Leonard’s game-winning buzzer-beater. Since then, the 76ers became more determined on reaching the finals. However, the 76ers ended up in a disappointing playoff run in 2020 after the Boston Celtics swept them in the opening round. Now, fans think that this year will be the year of the 76ers as they have a lot o firepower to match with the defending champions, Los Angeles Lakers. Apparently, Ben Simmons added 3-pointers to his offensive arsenal. Embiid’s post-up game has also improved a lot. Dwight Howard’s arrival in the team also helped significantly. He’s been one of the key factors in the team’s defensive end, which is a huge help for Embiid and Simmons.

NBA: LeBron James Went Down To Second Spot As The Lakers Continue To Struggle

The Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling lately. Apparently, Anthony Davis had to sit out for 2 to 3 weeks after suffering from a calf strain and aggravating the Achilles tendinosis in his right leg. The struggle of the Lakers also caused LeBron James to drop in the second sport in the 2021 MVP Race. James is currently averaging 25.6 points per game. However, without his backcourt partner, James struggles in giving the Lakers an easy win. There are reports stating that Davis will return during the All-Star break after he was listed to the reserves of the West Team. However, reports also claim that he’s doubtful and most likely to sit out for the rest of the All-Star break.

The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Golden State Warriors on March 1, 2020.
