Fellow ‘Growing Pains’ Alums Slam Kirk Cameron’s Caroling Protests

Chanel Adams

Growing Pains alumni are calling out Kirk Cameron for maskless caroling. The actor has come under from his former castmates over his decision to hold these massive protests. He’s been making headlines for organizing and promoting maskless caroling events across California. The Christian conservative is protesting the state’s stay-at-home order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

His sister Candace Cameron Bure already confirmed that she hasn’t attended the events. She was blamed simply by association. Now, some of his former Growing Pains co-stars are speaking out. Both Jeremy Miller and Tracey Gold released statements in recent days. Read on to learn more.

Growing Pain co-stars speak out

Jeremy Miller is just one of the people who called out Kirk Cameron for his maskless Christmas caroling protests. On Friday, December 25, the 44-year-old actor slammed his fellow Growing Pains alum. Miller played the youngest brother to Cameron’s character on the popular ’80s sitcom. In an email statement to the New York Post’s Page Six, he revealed that he disagrees with Cameron’s stance on holding these events amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“While I will always love my brother Kirk, I could not disagree more with his holding these maskless events at a time when safety and concern for others is an extreme priority,” Miller wrote. “I truly couldn’t be more disappointed in him.”

Tracey Gold, who played Carol Seaver, sister to Cameron’s Mike on the show, tweeted the following message earlier this month:

“Checking in with my dear brother Mike. @KirkCameron As your more intelligent sister I want you to know that I disapprove,” she tweeted. “I’m worried about you brother AND your family. Wear a mask. Stay home. Sing later.”

Cameron has been sharing videos on his Instagram page. The latest was held on Tuesday evening at The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks, California. The state continues to surge with tens of thousands of new cases reported daily. In Cameron’s videos, attendees stood close together, many without masks, defying the state’s mandate.

Fuller House star denies any involvement with Kirk Cameron

Candace Cameron Bure wanted to make it clear. She had nothing to do with Kirk Cameron or his caroling protests. The Full House alum would rather “follow the greater guidelines” enforced by the CDC by wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

However, Candace does not “appreciate the vile tweets” about her and her family. “I believe respectful dialogue is the key to being heard,” she said on Thursday, December 24. “Stay safe.”

Cameron’s representative told People the event encouraged face coverings and social distancing. The 50-year-old actor claims he did not organize the event. Instead, the community members and churches were responsible. Cameron wanted to participate to instill “hope and encouragement.”

“During this awful pandemic, people are longing for hope and encouragement and we want to offer that to them…we encourage attendees to wear masks and the freedom to socially distance, but we won’t deny our neighbors the opportunity to sing Christmas carols outside in whatever manner they choose,” he said. “Spirits were lifted and people were encouraged! This is America — the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Following Tuesday’s event, the Thousand Oaks mall released a statement, calling the gatherings “irresponsible.” Cameron attended a similar event earlier this month. He even proudly documented it on Instagram. He told his followers that protestors would be “celebrating our God-given liberties” to gather together.
