Meghan Markle wants Prince Harry’s first American Christmas to be “special,” according to an insider. Earlier this year, Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke news when they announced they were stepping down from their senior royal duties. Harry and Meghan made their big move to North America in April. Now, the couple is spending their first Christmas together away from the British Royal Family.
It’s also the first American Christmas for their son, Archie. So, it’s kind of a big deal. The couple is doing things their way and creating their own tradition. No longer do they follow the traditions of the British monarchy.
Meghan Markle wants Prince Harry’s Christmas to be “special”
Per People, Meghan Markle wants to make sure that Christmas is “special” for everyone, including her husband Prince Harry. The couple last spent Christmas in 2017 and 2018 with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family in Sandringham. Harry and Meghan spent their first Christmas with 1-year-old Archie in 2019 with a little “family time” during their six-week break at the end of the year in Canada.
This is the first year that the family is celebrating Christmas in California. The couple purchased a home in Montecito, where they are currently hiding out. It’s about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. While Harry has spent Christmas away from his family before, Meghan wants to make sure this one is a “special” one.
“It’s Harry’s second Christmas away from England, and Meghan wants to make sure it’s special for everyone,” the insider told People on Friday, December 25. “They are creating their own traditions at their new home.”
The family of three celebrated other holidays this year. They went trick-or-treating with Archie and had Thanksgiving at home with Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland. But Harry and Meghan wanted to be prepared for the holiday season by decorating for Christmas.
Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted the perfect Christmas tree
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were spotted earlier this month. A fan noticed the couple on the search for the perfect Christmas tree. They made a low-key appearance at a nearby tree barn. Most people didn’t recognize them except for one little boy who made the mistake of approaching Harry.
“Meghan and Prince Harry came into my work today and we sold them their Christmas Tree,” the eyewitness tweeted. “We had our lot empty when they got there — their agent promoted them a good time to come instead of us shutting it down. There was one family in there and their stoked little son ran through trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here not knowing who that is.”
“Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” the card reads.
