Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won their legal battle with the press. This means that a British paparazzi agency will no longer photograph the couple. On Friday, December 18, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex settled a legal claim over the photos shot by Splash UK. The photos showed Meghan with their, Archie, in Canada.
The settlement reveals that Splash UK agrees to no longer take pictures of Meghan, Harry, or their son, per The Guardian. This is a big win for the couple who escaped the British Royal Family earlier this year. Harry and Meghan have been fighting with British tabloids, even more so since their departure.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle win legal battle
London photo agency Splash UK agrees to refrain from taking any photos of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, or their son Archie in the future. This is the case if the agency plans to return from bankruptcy. The agency previously published photos of Meghan and Archie at a park in Canada last summer.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have successfully settled a legal claim brought at the beginning of this year against the paparazzi agency Splash UK,” a statement obtained by Insider from a spokesperson for Schillings, Meghan and Harry’s legal representation. “This settlement is a clear signal that unlawful, invasive, and intrusive paparazzi behaviour will not be tolerated, and that the couple takes these matters seriously – just as any family would.”
However, this is not the end of their legal battles. The couple will continue to move on with other legal battles, including a separate claim against Splash US. In the meantime, Meghan has a privacy lawsuit against the publishers of the Mail on Sunday. Schillings’ statement added that Meghan and Harry have a separate, ongoing legal claim against Splash US, which “continues to move forward in the British court system.”

The couple’s legal battle with publisher of the Mail
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can feel good about their legal win with Splash UK. But that’s just one small step towards their bigger goal. The former Senior Royals will move forward with their other legal battles. Meghan is currently involved in an ongoing legal battle with the publisher of the Mail on Sunday, the Associated Newspapers.
She sued the British newspaper for breach of Data Protection Act 2018, infringement of copyright, and misuse of private information. This comes after the Mail on Sunday published a private letter she wrote to her father, Thomas Markle. Harry released a rare statement announcing Meghan’s legal action against the Associated Newspaper.
“In addition to their unlawful publication of this private document, they purposely misled you [the reader] by strategically omitting select paragraphs, specific sentences, and even singular words to mask the lies they had perpetuated for over a year,” Harry said in the statement.

Harry also noted the media’s attention on his mother, Princess Diana, when addressing Meghan’s lawsuit against the Mail on Sunday.
“I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person,” Harry continued. “I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
In October 2020, the High of Court London agreed to postpone Meghan’s court date by nine months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The original date was scheduled for January 11, 2021, according to Hello! Magazine’s online royal correspondent Danielle Stacey.
