What Shocking Thing Did Elvis Presley Do On National Television?

Elvis Presley did something nice for America in 1956. He helped them fight a Polio pandemic. Polio was highly contagious, but many teens and young adults didn’t want to get the vaccine, thinking they were immune to Polio. Elvis did something about that by going on The Ed Sullivan Show and having a public vaccination.

When he did so, many teens and young adults followed his lead. Seeing a healthy young celebrity getting the vaccine made it okay for them to as well. They started to understand how important the vaccine was. Where they’d been reluctant before, it was just the push they needed.

Elvis Presley Helped Get Polio Under Control

Because Elvis Presley got the vaccination publicly, he helped slow the spread. That’s terminology we’ve become very familiar with in 2020. After the disease was under control the vaccine developed by Dr. Jonas Salk eventually eradicated it in 1979.

This example and other celebrity endorsements of vaccinations has prompted three former presidents to declare they’ll publicly get the vaccine for Coronavirus. According to People, Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush have all volunteered to get the vaccine.

The Former Leaders Trust Dr. Fauci

Like Elvis Presley, Joe Biden has also said he will publicly get the vaccine. Obama shared his thoughts saying, “people like Anthony Fauci, who I know and I’ve worked with, I trust completely. So, if Anthony Fauci tells me this vaccine is safe, and can vaccinate, you know, immunize you from getting COVID, absolutely, I’m going to take it.”

He went on to say he’d let them film him taking it when it is being made for those less at risk. Obama wants people to know he trusts the science and does not trust getting COVID.

Clinton’s press secretary said he, “will definitely take a vaccine as soon as available to him, based on the priorities determined by public health officials. And he will do it in a public setting if it will help urge all Americans to do the same.” Bush’s chief of staff, Freddy Ford said, “first the vaccines need to be deemed safe and administered to the priority populations. Then, President Bush will get in line for his, and will gladly do so on camera.”

This Should Get More Americans To Take The Vaccine

Just like Elvis Presley taking the vaccination on television, the former presidents should prompt more people to trust the science. Dr. Fauci said the vaccine should be available by April or May of next year. With over fourteen million cases in the US, some people wish it was sooner.

There are those naysayers who don’t trust any vaccination who might be harder to convince. It will be interesting to see which young celebrities like Kylie Jenner will also get a public vaccine. Along with other twenty-something influencers she’s been vocal about how important it was to vote and wear masks.
