Authorities Shared A Story Of Witnesses Coming Together & Saving The Day In A Recent Facebook Post
According to authorities in Florida, a 14-year-old boy was hit by a car on his first day of school. This incident took place around 9 AM local time on Monday, August 11, 2025.
As shared in a release on Facebook, the teen was riding an e-bike eastbound on Howland Boulevard. While trying to cross a crosswalk, he was hit by a Kia. The vehicle dragged the teen around 15 feet before coming to a stop.

At this point, the student was trapped underneath the car. Fortunately, witnesses at the scene were able to help, including a passing tow truck driver. According to the release, the group was “able to lift the vehicle” off the teen. He was then moved to safety.
The teen was wearing a helmet at the time and remained conscious, although injured, at the scene. He was then airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. He was listed as being in stable condition and is expected to fully recover. The statement shared, “We are thankful for his recovery.”
Authorities Also Shared Advice For Both Riders & Drivers Alike
The Deltona Traffic Unit is currently investigating the crash. They went on to share a message to drivers and e-bike riders: “We want to emphasize safe operation and awareness of e-bikes as they’ve become increasingly popular on our roads and sidewalks, and their increased speeds can reduce reaction time to avoid crashes.”
Riders were also encouraged to always wear a helmet. Parents were also asked to “talk with your kids about the rules of the road” and “safe riding habits.” This included avoiding using phones or earbuds while riding a bike. Riders were also told to keep their hands on the handlebars. Ultimately, it was emphasized, “Education is key. Since many e-bike riders are under 18, encourage supervised riding and seek formal training if possible.”

Drivers were likewise told not to get distracted while driving. Extra caution was also advised in school zones. In particular, it was emphasized, “Understand e-bikes can travel faster than traditional bicycles. That’s why it’s crucial to be extra vigilant.”
