#FreeBritney supporters are mourning for the celeb yet again after the most recent court filings were made public. What’s going on with Britney Spears’ Case? Read on to find out.
Britney’s Please Ignored By Judge, Again
Fans really thought that Britney Spears’ horrifying and heartfelt testimony would move the judge to action. Unfortunately, that is not the case. On Wednesday, the latest documents about Britney Spears’ conservator case became public. Filed by the LA Superior Court, the records reveal that the court officially rejected Britney’s lawyer’s request to remove her father from his role in the conservatorship.
According to Variety, this ruling is ‘not related to Britney’s most recent hearing. Instead, the ruling is the delayed response to her lawyer’s request to remove Jamie Spears from the system. The request was initially filed back in November of 2020.
Despite a hugely impactful testimony, the judge holds that she can not rule based on her word alone. At of the time of this article, Spears has yet to officially file a request to terminate her conservatorship. Experts are quick to point out how little is being done investigation-wise.
If the judge is not convinced that she is capable of managing her affairs – she could appoint a new person to step into Jamie’s role in light of the accusations. She, however, has made it clear through multiple rulings that she is not willing to do so unless her hand is forced.
Interesting Timing
What is striking about the judge’s decision is the timing. According to NPR, the issue was ruled on this week- despite the initial request having been submitted last year. In fact, the judge signed this document on Wednesday – nearly a week AFTER hearing Britney’s passionate, gut-wrenching testimony. Even after hearing the singer’s first-hand accounts of abuse, mistreatment, and even physical and medical violation – the judge refused to remove Spears’ Dad from the equation.
Judge Brenda Penny Feels Britney Spears Isn’t Stable Enough To Run Her Affairs
In her lengthy address to Judge Penny last week, Britney recounts the abuses she endured over the last decade. She told the judge that Jamie has manipulated those around her into believing she is mentally unstable. He did this in order to take control of her estate. Britney revealed some very personal details about her life inside the conservatorship. The celeb says that she was forced on tour against her will, and made to take lithium without her consent. Britney says that her father forced her to participate in various substance programs by threatening to take away her access to her children.
Even with all of this information – the judge is holding her stance on Britney’s mental aptitude. Despite holding a residency in Las Vegas and releasing one of her biggest albums during this time, the court claims Britney is still not capable of moving back into her life with autonomy.
Court docs from Wednesday dictate that Britney is “unable to manage his or her financial resources or to resist fraud or undue influence.” Britney fans disagree. Most of them side with Britney and believe the fraud is coming from within the conservatorship.
Britney Spears Wants Out
In her testimony, Britney points out that over the last 13 years, her hard work paid for the lifestyles of those around her. She is the one breaking her back and yet the court is allowing her father and various allegedly corrupt sources of authority to pull the strings on everything from visits with her kids to her birth control choices. She has made it very clear that she wants the judge to release her from the conservatorship.
Britney Spears will return to court on July 14th. Many wait impatiently to see if the celeb officially petition to dissolve the arrangement. “I just want my life back,’ Spears’ pleaded in her testimony, ‘It’s been 13 years. And it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve owned my money. And it’s my wish and my dream for all of this to end.’
