Brooklyn Nets star LaMarcus Aldridge just announced his retirement from the NBA. Aldridge’s retirement was unfortunate and unexpected. Apparently, Aldridge had to leave the game after suffering from heart complications in his most recent game with the Nets. Aldridge had a legendary career in the NBA. He also shined the most during his time with the San Antonio Spurs. Sadly, Aldridge won’t be able to grab a championship ring with the Nets. Fans are also sad about his sudden retirement as he’s about to reach an insane milestone in just a few games.
NBA: LaMarcus Aldridge Announces Retirement
In a social media post, Brooklyn Nets star LaMarcus Aldridge shared a lengthy message announcing his retirement from the NBA. “For 15 years I’ve put basketball first, and now, it is time to put my health and my family first,” Aldridge said. According to him, he can no longer play due to his condition. Apparently, Aldridge was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. It’s an abnormal condition in the heart where the person can suffer rapid heartbeats.
Aldridge also said that he suffered abnormalities in his heartbeat during their recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He explained it as one of the “scariest things” that ever happened in his life. Nets’ General Manager Sean Marks announced that the entire organization supports Aldridge’s retirement. “He made the best decision for him, his family, and for his life after basketball,” Marks added.
Aldridge’s Legendary NBA Career
LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the most dominant big men that the league has ever seen. He can shoot at almost any distance, which is a rare skill set for a center. Aldridge also has an unstoppable offensive move in the league, which is the turnaround jumper. Aldridge became more dominant during his time with the San Antonio Spurs. He was able to practice with the NBA Legend Tim Duncan, who also taught him different offensive moves. Gregg Popovich even explained Aldridge’s game as a “Consummate professional with a unique skillset and deep respect for the game.”
Aldridge was also 49 points away from reaching 20,000 career points. Apparently, Aldridge retired with 19,951 career points. Some fans are also begging him on social media to play at least four to five games in order to join the 20K club. Aldridge was also the fifth superstar that the Nets signed this year after obtaining Blake Griffin.
NBA: What’s Next For The Brooklyn Nets?
With LaMarcus Aldridge’s retirement, the Brooklyn Nets will lose an efficient scorer. However, the Nets are still dominating despite the absence of Aldridge. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are also back playing together. Meanwhile, James Harden is expected to return in just a few days after suffering from a hamstring injury. Irving has been making headlines as well. Apparently, he’s been playing at an MVP level recently. NBA analysts also think that the Nets are built to win titles. However, it’s not going to be easy for the Nets as many other teams are also hungry to finally grab this year’s championship.
The Brooklyn Nets will face the Charlotte Hornets on April 17, 2021.
