Prince William and Prince Harry are taking the steps to work on their strained relationship. The brothers reconnected during the holiday season. Just a year ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were stepping down from their senior royal duties. This came as a shock to everyone, including the royal family.
It also caused a rift between Harry and William. But now, the two are looking to rebuild their strained relationship. Harry and William have reportedly spoken with each other during the holiday season. Because it’s hard to celebrate the holidays without your family, even if they are thousands of miles away.
Prince Harry and Prince William are repairing their relationship
According to a new report, the royals found a way to connect during the holiday season. Although they couldn’t spend the holidays in-person, they still found a way to be together amid the rumored tensions between them. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. And it’s likely that the two brothers missed each other.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl spoke to ET Online about the British princes. They were able to bring their families together for the holidays.
“There were phone and video calls over the Christmas and New Year holiday and the Sussexes sent presents to the Cambridges and vice versa,” Nicholl said. “It was an opportunity in an otherwise very busy and chaotic year for both of the families to come together and connect, albeit virtually.”
Harry and William were reportedly on the outs for some time. Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, made their move to America in March 2020. The couple decided to step away from their senior royal duties in January 2020. Nicholl told ET Online that the Duke of Cambridge and his younger brother want to move on from the drama.
“Things are a lot better between William and Harry. If you go back a year at this stage, these brothers were barely on speaking terms,” Nicholl continued. “When William went to the Sandringham Summit, he was so angry with his brother. He couldn’t even face going to that lunch with the Queen. He only went for the meetings, such was his frustration and feeling of disappointment about what his brother had done and how Harry was handling the situation.”
Princes had a “very real, very ugly” falling out last year
Tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry grew last year. Us Weekly reported on Wednesday, January 6, that things were bad between them. People involved with the royals didn’t see a point of return. The famous brothers weren’t even on speaking terms.
“They’d reached an impasse, there was so much mud under the bridge and a lot of people felt their feud was beyond repair,” an insider told the outlet.
But their reported feud goes back a few years. In the 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Harry confirmed that he and William were on “different paths” in their lives. But he promised to always be there for his older brother “as I know he’ll always be there for me.”
The brothers hope to reunite as soon as this spring. Harry would like to return home in July to honor his late mother Princess Diana during the unveiling of a new statue. Meghan is also said to be there as well. It could be the first time that people will see the two brothers together again, COVID pending.
