The Rockettes teaching free, live classes
Now fans can learn how to dance like The Rockettes. Their free dance classes last between 50 and 60 minutes long. They are held every Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET on their Instagram Live stream. And they will run through December 23, according to Shape.
“With everything going on in the world right now, it became apparent that we needed to throw a little holiday spirit into the social media world,” Rockette Danielle Morgan revealed to Shape. “It’s been so rewarding that, despite not having the Christmas show this year, we’ve been able to bring some holiday cheer and joy to our fans.”
The Rockettes already have several Christmas-themed dance classes available, including “Christmas Dreams,” “New York at Christmas,” and “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers.” A different Rockette leads each class, which starts with a 15-minute warm-up followed by choreography. The classes are available on their Instagram channel that you can watch at a later time, if you can’t make it to the live classes. And it’s more than a dance — it’s a workout.
“You’ll definitely build a sweat before you start dancing,” Morgan told Shape. “You’ll challenge yourself physically and also mentally as far as understanding the choreography and details.”
“The thing about Rockette choreography is that it’s our job to make it look easy, but in reality, it isn’t,” she added.
Morgan also advised people to tailor the dances to their personal experiences and abilities. The Rockettes hope that their live dance classes will offer some much-needed cheer after a challenging year. Their annual show, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, was canceled amid COVID-19.
