Stumbling onto an old photo of two celebrities who used to date is nothing new. Every once in a while, gossip sites even write entire articles about former celebrity couples. So, it’s not uncommon for internet users to see a photo and think, “Oh, they used to date?”
One social media user caused a bit of a kerfuffle this week with a flashback photo of Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. While she is happily married now to soon-to-be First Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, she once dated a famous talk show host.
Twitter User Shares Kamala Harris and Surprising Ex-Boyfriend
Kamala Harris has been on everyone’s social media feed this week. Come January 20, she will be the first female Vice President in U.S. history. But her dating history is what raised eyebrows. On November 12, Twitter user @_REALbossbabe shared a photo of Kamala Harris and talk show host Montel Williams!

In the caption, she wrote, “The Fact that Kamala Dated Montel and it seems like no one remembers lol.”
And many people didn’t remember! One Twitter user dubbed the former relationship as “mad random.” Others belatedly congratulated Montel Williams for once dating a future Vice President. Some people couldn’t resist making jokes that the talk show host could have been in the White House.
Montel Williams has been married to his third wife, Tara Fowler, since 2007. He was previously married to Rochele See from 1982 to 1989 and Grace Morley from 1992 to 2000.
It was in 2001 when Kamala Harris and Montel Williams dated.
Montell Williams Slammed Sexist Questions About Relationship Last Year
This is not the first time the internet remembered that the Vice President-elect and Montel Williams Show host dated. The same photo circulated a year ago. At the time, Montel Williams confirmed that they dated, but slammed the fact that it was in the news at all.
“@KamalaHarris and I briefly dated about 20 years ago when we were both single,” he tweeted. He added a “So what?” to his tweet. While he said he respects then-Senator Harris, he didn’t understand the interest in her dating history, per Us Weekly.
In fact, he slammed such sexist questions. He wrote, “I have great respect for Sen. Harris. I have to wonder if the same stories about her dating history would have been written if she were a male candidate?”
He has a point.
The Montel Williams Show ran between 1991 and 2008.
In 1999, Montel Williams was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He runs a nonprofit MS Foundation.
