Music festivals are supposed to be fun and a chance to come together as a community to dance, enjoy, and embrace. Unfortunately, with any large event, there is always a risk, and attendees need to be aware and diligent. The French musical festival, Fêtes de la Musique, was held over the weekend of June 21st, 2025, but a police call changed everything. It was Saturday evening at approximately 915 pm, and authorities were alerted to a syringe attack going around. It is unclear whether multiple needles or just one were used by the attacker.

Regardless, over twelve women, aged between fourteen and twenty, were sent to the hospital over what happened. Fortunately, a male was identified via camera footage and was promptly arrested. Authorities are hopeful that more information will be found on his cellphone. The goal is to lead them to more assailants and make further arrests. Other attacks such as this occurred at Place de la République and Place Saint-Jacques. Currently, what these women were attacked with is unknown, but hopefully, more can be revealed via hospital testing.
Aside from this incident, there was also a report of someone slapping a woman at the festival, and that person was also taken into custody. The police also had to stop some fights and rescue a pup who was locked in a car. That has become something that is occurring more regularly lately, with people leaving their children and pets in vehicles. It is never okay, and with an immense heatwave, simply cracking a window is still cruel. Followers who saw this story applauded the first responders but questioned how this could be avoided.

A Fair Warning
Upon the attack being exposed, a follower shared that they purposely did not go to the festival because of this. Rumors had been circulating prior to Fêtes de la Musique that something of this magnitude could happen. That could be why some question why more was not done when there was already a present threat. Another noted that their daughter was in attendance and returned home “traumatized”:
- Kudos to the police and firemen. Can’t we avoid all this?
- How do women want to feel safe with men like this, seriously?
- That’s why I didn’t go.. It was circulating on Instagram that there was going to be something like this. It’s still shocking.
Hopefully, more attackers can be identified and punished for their acts. Furthermore, the hope is that whatever was in the syringes, if anything, was not harmful, and there will be no long-term effects.
