The security bin holds a variety of items. From keys to belts to jewelry and more, they go through the X-ray machine, but one item is suggested to be held on to. It is your cellphone, and an experienced traveler has shared why she is holding on to her phone. Apparently, this is the number one item stolen from TSA, and she wants everyone to know how to remain diligent and cautious. So, the big question is where a phone should go? It seems it is safest in a zipped-up bag inside luggage.

The traveler, who made a variety of social media posts, shared this insight:

“It’s always going in a zipped pocket in my bag.”

This tip about stolen phones came directly from a TSA agent. When the passenger shared that she was placing her phone in a bin, the agent asked her if she did not like her phone. The traveler was confused until the airport agent made it clear that phones are always stolen.

Obviously, this tip made waves, and everyone wanted to know how to travel safely through security. More so, they wanted to ensure they left with all of their belongings. The biggest question is, if this is security, how do things get stolen right from under their noses? It was explained that bins and lines can get backed up; therefore, items can be moved far away from travelers. Everyone gets so distracted by waiting that they do not see what is happening ahead of them. When this happens, it is easy for travelers to come in and snatch expensive belongings. Once this was revealed, the comments came flooding in. Many stated that this was a good idea in theory but impossible all the same:

  • that doesn’t work, I travel all the time and they always make you take your electronics out of any bag. just keep an eye on it
  • Except when the TSA’s rule is that all electronics, including phones, must be out and in a bin.😄
  • Well, some airports require that all electronic devices have to be outside of the bags.

Some stated that the airport security should do a far better job at protecting the merchandise. At the same time, others blamed the passengers for not being responsible. Another tip was to be careful when it came to walking barefoot at the airport because it was a cesspool of germs and illness.

Are you shocked about the cellphone problem, or was it something that never crossed your mind? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
