Keep reading for more details.

Beanie Baby Break-In Leads To Horror Show

For years, the world went crazy for Beanie Babies and getting their hands on these little toys. They were sold everywhere, but some became exclusive, which made them more attractive. Although they were initially relatively cheap, they can now be resold for thousands of dollars to collectors. As for the creator, Ty Warner, he has amassed a fortune with his Ty brand. Now, he is known for something else, as his home was broken into on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025. He was at his home when this horror show went down.

Fortunately, Ty was able to get out of the house in time to call for help. At first, he believed that it was a possible vehicle theft or home invasion robbery. He was unsure what would happen or what exactly was going on, but Linda Malek-Aslanian, 60, was discovered outside of the home. Santa Barbara County District Attorney John Savrnoch shared these details about Ty and what he did upon learning that someone could be in his home:

“He was present. He was not physically harmed. He was able to escape and contact authorities.”

42-year-old Russell Maxwell Phay was the perpetrator and was locked inside the home when the police arrived.

He locked himself in a bathroom upstairs and then escaped through the window of the Beanie Baby mansion. Russell is being charged with first-degree attempted murder with premeditation/ deliberation, residential burglary with a person present, and assault with a force likely to produce great bodily injury. Plus, he is charged with resisting or delaying a peace officer and kidnapping. It is unclear as to why Russell entered the home or if he even knew who owned it:

“At this point I’m not certain about that. It’s a big house, but of course it’s in an area with a lot of big houses. We don’t have any indication or belief that there was any connection.”

What Happens Next?

The Beanie Baby mogul had a connection to Linda Malek-Aslanian, as she had worked for Ty Warner Hotels & Resorts. She was an employee for eleven years, though her reasoning for being at the home is also unknown. Russell Maxell Phay was a veteran, but these charges are extremely serious. Although Linda was taken to the hospital, she is listed as having brain injuries that led to a coma.

Hopefully, she is doing okay after all of this, and justice is served for this senseless crime. Do you remember having a Beanie Baby, and can you believe all that went down at the mogul’s home? Let us know in the comments.
