Upcoming Movies: 5 Films Coming To Theaters This Weekend

Robby Steven

To kick off the month of March, several upcoming movies are being released in theaters this weekend. Whether it’s a nationwide release like ‘The Batman,” or a limited release like ‘The Changed,’ movie fans have a variety to choose from.

Upcoming Movies:

‘The Batman’- March 4 (Nationwide)
Synopsis:
“During his second year of fighting crime, Batman pursues the Riddler, a serial killer who targets elite Gotham City citizens. He uncovers corruption that connects to his own family during the investigation, and is forced to make new allies to catch the Riddler and bring the corrupt to justice.”

Director Matt Reeves brings to the screen his telling of the Batman. With ‘Cloverfield’ and two ‘Planet of the Apes’ films under his belt, Reeves is no stranger to a big-budget blockbuster. With Robert Pattinson behind the mask, the potential is there for ‘The Batman’ to be a major hit with moviegoers.

Bruce is Back

‘A Day To Die’- March 4 (Limited Theatrical/VOD)
Synopsis:
“A disgraced parole officer is indebted to a local gang leader and forced to pull off a series of dangerous drug heists within twelve hours. He must pay the $2 million dollars he owes, rescue his kidnapped pregnant wife, and settle a score with the city’s corrupt police chief.”

Veteran action star Bruce Willis uses ‘A Day to Die’ as his newest vehicle back onto the screen. Director Wes Miller teams with Willis to deliver his biggest film to date, having previously helmed ‘Hell on the Border’ and ‘Atone.” ‘A Day to Die’ will have a limited theatrical release so fans can also check it out on VOD.

‘Nightride’- March (Limited Theatrical/VOD)
Synopsis:
“A real-time one-shot thriller set on the midnight streets of Belfast. It places us in the driver’s seat with small-time dealer Budge as he tries to pull one last deal from a dangerous loan shark. When the handover goes wrong, Budge finds himself in a race against time.”

Director Stephen Fingleton’s new film ‘Nightride’ is a real-time heist film. Staring Moe Dunford (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), ‘Nightride’ follows the character of Budge during a botched heist that goes horribly wrong.

Horror icon returns

‘The Changed’- March 4 (Limited Theatrical/VOD)
Synopsis-
“Something has taken possession of the hearts and minds of the populace. Kim, Mac , and Jane try to convince themselves it’s paranoia, but before long the city is besieged by the changed. By the time they realize an alien intelligence has merged with their neighbor, horde of changed is amassing outside.”

Veteran horror actor Tony Todd (Candyman) continues his trend in the genre with ‘The Changed.’ This low-budget horror film flies under the radar, but with Todd’s star power with fans, it could make some noise.

After Yang- March 4 (Limited Theatrical/VOD)
Synopsis:
“In a world where robotic children are purchased as live-in babysitters, a father, and daughter attempt to save the life of their robotic family member, Yang, who has become unresponsive.”

A24 has released dozens of arthouse-style genre films in recent years, so it’s not a surprise that ‘After Yang’ has gotten early praise. An 84 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, ‘After Yang’ is keeping a low profile with a same-day release as ‘The Batman.” Ironically, Colin Farrell leads the A24 sci-fi effort the same day he can be seen in the  ‘The Batman.”
