Chris Cuomo Covers The Gabby Petito Case

On September 2oth, Chris Cuomo used a great portion of his Cuomo Prime Time CNN segment reporting on the latest advances in the Gabby Petito case. During the segment, the journalist covered case updates, some backstory, and the mystery behind her fiance’s disappearance just before Gabby’s body was found. The segment lasted roughly 22 minutes, and pretty effectively covered all the information that had recently become available.

Most show fans and those following the case thought that Cuomo did a fair job covering the topic. Most would say that giving Gabby’s case more exposure increases the chances that her case will get solved and that putting her face continuously in the public eye will eventually reach someone who knows the truth. This group, however, does not include Don Winslow.

Don Winslow Thinks Cuomo’s Coverage Is A Waste Of Resources

Award-winning, American b estselling novelist, Don Winslow took his nose out of his work to troll around on Twitter. This time, he came for Chris Cuomo over his segment coverage on Gabby Petito’s case. Why? Because she’s white. On September 22nd, the day after Cuomo’s segment aired, Winslow took his grievances to Twitter in a very pointed post.

In his tweet, he tagged Chris and makes a point to tell everyone that Cuomo Prime Time covered Gabby’s case for a whopping 22 minutes. The author seems to think that amount of time is much too excessive in nature over a missing Caucasian girl. He goes on to directly ask Chris when he plans to do the same for a missing child or female of a darker race.

Followers React To Don’s Statement

Many Twitter users were absolutely horrified by the contents of Don’s tweet. It seems to say that either A – Gabby is only getting coverage because she is white, or, B – that missing/ murdered Caucasian girls do not deserve air time because ‘colored’ people need it more. Either way – he wasn’t winning any fans on social media. Most fans were disgusted that Don would imply that Gabby’s case wasn’t important. Others were miffed at why he was trying to spotlight Chris Cuomo as a racist.

Many viewers took to Twitter themselves in response to the beef between the two high-profile celebs.

One user asked in his tweet if the appropriate action was to balance every segment about a white person by including an equally long one about a person of color.

Another user kindly told Don that perhaps he needed to calm down and take a back seat. The user blatantly points out the fact that he has his own platform, yet has never championed BIPOC communities before.

Several other commenters went on to add that instead of bickering and making anyone feel undeserving of justice, perhaps that we all work harder to bring attention to missing people’s cases from all walks of life, rather than focusing on what race they might be.

What do you think? Was Don Winslow going too far? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
