WWE NXT 7/13: Rating and Ranking Every Match

WWE NXT Great American Bash in the rearview mirror as the superstars of the black and gold brand march forward. In the main event, Karrion Kross defends his NXT Title against Johnn Gargano with Samoa Joe as the special referee.

Every match on WWE NXT will include highlight moments from the match and a final analysis. Each match will be given a star rating and be ranked from worst to best.

Matches Ranked from Worst to Best

7) Sarry d. Gigi Dolan
Highlight Moment: Sarry hits a stiff low-angle dropkick to a sitting Gigi Dolan. That’s worth checking out the highlight on Twitter. Mandy Rose makes an appearance to scout the match.

Match Finish: Dolan attempts an STO but Sarray backs out to counter. Dolan hits an elbow off the ropes but Sarry offers a dropkick in return. Sarry lands a stiff kick that is enough to get the win.

Final Analysis: Decent enough but it was a quick TV match that served as a way to highlight Rose’s appearance. Take a Pass. *1/2

WWE NXT: A feud reignited

6) Tyler Rust d. Bobby Fish
Highlight Moment: Roderick Strong over the Dimoand Mind served as a distraction to Bobby Fish, escalating the feud in the process.

Match Finish: Bobby Fish hits a T-Bone suplex onto Rust appears on the appear as a distraction.. Rust charges behind with a chop block and a buzzsaw kick that leads to the end. The Diamond Mind beats down Fish after the match until KUSHIDA makes the save.

Final Analysis: This was too short to have much merit but it did extend the feud, and you can’t ask for much more. Take a Pass. *1/2

A Partnership Imploding

5) Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter d. Jessi Kamea & Aliyah
Highlight Moment: Hot action to kick off the match as Kamea attacks Kacy in the corner with stiff kicks. Aliyah tosses Kacy across the ring by her hair before getting a two-count with a Northern lights suplex.

Match Finish: With Aliyah knocked to the outside, Kayden holds Kamea allowing Kacy to get the win following a 450 Splash. After the match, Robert Stone rips into Aliyah who answers with a beatdown as Kamea looks on stunned. Franky Money then comes to ringside and stares them down.

Final Analysis: Kacy and Kayden are always a fun watch, but this was just a quick match to get to the aftermath. Take a Pass. *1/2

WWE NXT: New Blood Rising

4) Duke Hudson d. Ikemen Jiro
Highlight Moment: Ikemen Jiro channels Taiji with a tarantula submission which always makes for a cool visual.

Match Finish: Jiro heads to the top rope and connects with a blockbuster off the top by Jiro. Hudson bails to the outside but Jiro connects with a dropkick and a moonsault. Jiro appears to have hurt his ankle but is able to shake it off enough to land a hurricanrana. Hudson then pops up and gets the win after a bossman slam.

Final Analysis: A short but effective TV match as new blood gets featured, which is always a nice change of pace. Skim It. **1/2

Women’s action

3) Dakota Kai d. Ember Moon
Highlight Moment: Ember Moon hits Dakota Kai with a suicide dive through the bottom and middle rope. Back in the ring, Kai connects with a stiff running big boot to Moon in the corner. Up top, Moon lands an avalanche frankenstiener that gets a two-count on Kai.

Match Finish: Moon heads the apron but is hit by Kai. Back in the ring, Kai hits an elevated reverse backstabber for the win.

Final Analysis: Solid match as Dakota Kai moves forward with her push. Where Moon goes from here is anyone’s guess. Skim It. **3/4

WWE NXT: Strength in Numbers

2) Santos Escobar d. Dexter Loomis
Highlight Moment: Dexter Lumis hits a Thesz press on Escobar before landing solid punches. Loomis crawls around the ring which freaks Escobar out enough that he retreats to the outside. LDF attempts to target Lumis but he heads outside the ring before pulling Escobar underneath.

Match Finish: Lumis hits a side slam on Escobar and attempts a cover. Mendoza pulls Santos to the outside as Lumis follows but is thrown into the ring post by Wilde. Back in the ring, a dazed Lumis eats a Phantom Driver allowing Escobar the pin and win.

Final Analysis: Good match as expected as Santos Escobar continues to shine on WWE NXT. Only time will tell what his next step is, as Lumis holds steady as a solid mid-card babyface. Worth a Watch. ***

NXT Title Main Event

1) NXT Championship Match: Karrion Kross d. Johnny Gargano
Highlight Moment: Samoa Joe is the special referee in an attempt to keep the order straight. Karrion Kross hits an Oklahoma Slam out of the corner but Johnny Gargano reversed into a DDT. On the outside, Kross goes to hit Gargano with the steel steps but Joe intervenes resulting in one of many staredowns between them.

Match Finish: On the outside, Gargano lands a DDT onto Kross on the floor as he was staring down with Joe. Back inside, Gargano hits One Final Beat for a two-count. Kross pops up, nails Gargano with a powerbomb and a Saito suplex! Kross then charges with a back elbow for the win. After the match, Kross lays out Joe with the straight jacket submission.

Final Analysis: Another good TV main event for the title. It wasn’t on the level of a TakeOver main event but it doesn’t need to be. It’s only a matter of time before we get Joe back in the ring and against Kross. Worth a Watch. ***1/2
