IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion 2021: Rating and Ranking Every Match

IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion has been one of the most highly anticipated PPVs for the company in some time. The main event featured AEW Champion Kenny Omega and IMPACT Wrestling Champion Rich Swann in a title for title match. The tag titles will be on the line as New Japan’s FinJuice looks to defend against The Good Brothers.

Every match on IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion will include the biggest highlight of the match, what the storyline progression is, and a final analysis. Each match will be given a star rating and be ranked from worst to best.

Matches Ranked from Worst to Best

8) Jordynne Grace and Rachel Ellering d. Fire ‘N Flava (New Champion)
Highlight Moments: Jordynne Grace and Rachel Ellering get the early advantage, using their power to keep the momentum on their side. Hogan makes a tag as Fire ‘N Flava hit a double suplex on Grace for a two-count. After Grace is beaten down, she finally makes a hot tag to Ellering who cleans house, getting a near fall after a bottom rope leg drop. Fire ‘N Flava hit double top rope dropkicks before Steelz takes a nasty fall on a botch apron cuter. Back inside Ellering hits Steelz with a sit-out spinebuster for the win and the titles.

Storyline Progression: With Jazz recently retired, Jordynne Grace was forced to find a new tag team partner to challenge for the IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Tag Team Titles. To her surprise, Rachel Ellering debuted last week and filled the void.

Final Analysis: They all tried hard but it was clunky and rough at times, with botches throughout. Skim It. *3/4

Knockout’s Title Match

7) IMPACT Wrestling Knockout’s Title: Deonna Purrazzo d. Tenille Dashwood
Highlight Moments: Clunky start until Tenille Dashwood heads to the top rope and hits a crossbody for a two-count onto Deonna Purrazzo. Purrazzo and Dashwood exchange multiple go-behinds before Purrazzo hits multiple German suplexes. Dashwood regains the advantage with an Indian Deathlock. Dashwood breaks from an armbar but Purrazzo connects with the Queen’s Gambit for the win. After the match, Kimber and Susan stand with Dashwood before Taylor Wilde returns to IMPACT Wrestling to make the save.

Storyline Progression: Tenille Dashwood has been on a winning streak as of late, and her sights were set at Deonna Purrazzo’s title.

Final Analysis: Decent match but much like the tag title match, it felt like it belonged on a weekly TV episode. Skim It. **

Tag Title Match

6) IMPACT Wrestling Tag Team Titles: FinJuice d. The Good Brothers
Highlight Moments: FinJuice get the early advantage as they work over Karl Anderson with a series of double team moves. Luke Gallows gets the tag and cuts off David Finley in the corner as the challengers go to work. Juice Robinson finally gets the hot tag as he takes out Gallows with a plancha. The action breaks down as The Good Brothers attempt a double team on Robinson, but Finley breaks it up. Gallows is then rolled up by Robinson who gets the three count.

Storyline Progression: After FinJuice defeating The Good Brothers for the tag team titles, they went off to New Japan. Upon their return, the former champions were looking for their rematch.

Final Analysis: Decent match but it felt like it should have been on a weekly episode of IMPACT Wrestling than a PPV. Skim It. **1/2

IMPACT Wrestling: Friendship Tested

5) Brian Myers d. Matt Cardona
Highlight Moments: The action quickly heads to the outside as Matt Cardona hits a nasty-looking neckbreaker. After Meyers gains the advantage back inside, Cardona takes it back to the outside and hits radio silence on the ramp. Meyers connects a spear before throwing Cardona back in the ring and getting a two-count after a top rope elbow. Cardona comes down hard on his leg causing the referees to check on him. Meyers picks him up and nails a short closeline and a lariat for the win.

Storyline Progression: Matt Cardona has been a thorn in the side of Brian Meyers ever since he was released by the WWE a few months back. After going back and forth on IMPACT Wrestling, their friendship was put to the ultimate test.

Final Analysis: Fast-paced from start to finish for another solid match on the IMPACT Wrestling show tonight. Worth a Watch. ***

A Big Debut

4) Violent by Design d. James Storm, Chris Sabin, Eddie Edwards & Willie Mack
Highlight Moments: Due to the injury to Eric Young, W. Morrisey, the former Big Cass in the WWE, made his IMPACT Wrestling debut to fill the slot. Morrisey gets tagged in early on and knocks James Storm off the top rope to the outside with a big boot. Chris Sabin gets caught on a suicide dive by Morriset but Eddie Edwards finishes the job with his own dive. Back inside and Deaner is hit with the finishing moves by all four faces until Morrisey breaks up the count. Both teams cluster up like quail on the outside until Sabin hits a superplex on Deaner to the outside. Morrisey heads back inside and finishes off Mack with a swinging sit-out bossman slam.

Storyline Progression: Violent by Design have been on a year across IMPACT Wrestling ever since Eric Young created the stable earlier this year. The lifeblood of IMPACT Wrestling have done everything they could to push back, which was put to the test at the PPV.

Final Analysis: Fun tag match and the former Big Cass, W. Morrisey, looked great in his return to a major wrestling promotion. Solid stuff. Worth a Watch. ***

Last Man Standing

3) Last Man Standing Match: Trey Miguel d. Sami Callihan
Highlight Moments: As expected, the match quickly heads to the outside. Trey Miguel goes back into the ring and attempts a suicide dive but eats the guardrail. Both men brawl to the crowd area as Callihan powerbombs Miguel on an equipment box. Callihan takes out a wrench and rips at Miguel’s face before throwing a chair at his head. Back inside, Callihan sets up an upsidedown table before slamming Miguel onto the legs. Callihan sets up another table before dragging Miguel up top and piledriving him from the top rope. Back on the outside, Callihan sets up another table but Miguel hits him with a cutter for the win.

Storyline Progression: Sami Callihan has been putting Trey Miguel to the test in recent weeks. The mind games played by Callihan have led Miguel down the road to a Last Man Standing Match at IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion.

Final Analysis: Brutal Last Man Standing Match, but brutal in a positive way. Both men went hard and their effort paid off with Miguel getting the needed win. Worth a Watch. ***1/2

IMPACT Wrestling: No Limits

2) IMPACT Wrestling X-Divison Title: Josh Alexander d. TJP & Ace Austin (New Champion)
Highlight Moments: Each man got time to shine until Alexander hit an impressive double suplex on both Austin and TJP. TJP gets a two-count after a frog splash on Austin until Alexander breaks up the pin with an ankle lock. Alexander catches TJP in a fireman’s carry and drops him on Austin with a roll through for an impressive spot. After TJP is pulled outside by Madman Fulton, Alexander hits Austin with a double-underhook driver for the win and the title.

Storyline Progression: Ace Austin won the X-Divison Title last month from TJP and has been holding onto the title with the help of Madman Fulton. With Josh Alexander proving he’s a top contender, the X-Divison Title was hanging in the balance.

Final Analysis: A face-paced way to kick off the PPV as all three men showed they have good chemistry. Alexander has been impressive in recent months and deserved the belt and won it in a very good opening match. Worth a Watch. ***3/4

IMPACT Wrestling: Title for Title

1) IMPACT Title vs AEW Title: Kenny Omega d. Rich Swann 
Highlight Moments: Mauro Ranallo is on the call for the first time since his NXT gig that ended last year. Rich Swann is accompanied by Eddie Edwards and Willie Mack. Kenny Omega has Don Callis, who does his ring intro, and The Good Brothers, by his side. Chain wrestling sequence to start before Omega is slapped to the outside. Swann connects with a baseball slide then a phoenix splash onto Omega. On the outside, Omega gets the advantage after dropping Swan on his head on the apron. Swann makes a brief comeback with stiff chops and a flying closeline. Omega takes over on the top rope but falls victim to Swann’s hurricanrana.

Back up top Omega botches a superbomb as Swann hits a frog splash for a two-count. Omega bounces back with a Dr. Bomb that gets a near fall on Swann. A V-Trigger by Omega leads to an attempt of the One-Winged Angel but Swann fights free. Swann retreats to the corner but Omega hits another V-Trigger and sets Swann up on the top rope. Omega botches the move again as they fall awkwardly to the ground. Multiple full nelson suplexes by Omega but Swann counters into a cutter but mistimes the move and hits the referee. Omega attempts a chair shot but the AEW referee pulls it away allowing Swann to hit a handspring cutter. Swann misses a phoenix splash allowing Omega to hit a German suplex for a two count. Another V-Trigger and One Winged Angel by Omega finishes it off.

Storyline Progression: In recent months, the AEW invasion of IMPACT Wrestling has included Don Callis recruiting Kenny Omega to obtain the world title. Omega, the reigning AEW Champion, met Rich Swann one on one to add to his collection.

Omega rules the AEW-verse

Final Analysis: This was a really good match but it fell short of being the epic they were hoping it would be. It’ll get praise from the usual suspects, but i’d pump the brakes. The result was predictable, and Omega’s multiple botches at key moments hurt. They both also went too fast which hurt the flow. Despite that, what did go work ended up working really well and they both tried hard. Considering the historical impact of the result, I’d go Must-Watch but just barely. ****
