The young actor took on the role of Edgar Scissorhands, Edward’s son. Meanwhile, Winona Ryder reprised her role as Kim from Tim Burton’s 1990 movie. The ad will air during the game’s fourth quarter for the Cadillac LYRIQ, which is General Motors’ new line of electric cars.
Timothee Chalamet is Edward Scissorhands’ son
The new commercial for Cadillac stars with Winona Ryder’s narration, which is similar to the original film. Timothee Chalamet plays the role of Edgar, who is the son of the film’s titular character. The commercial shows him struggling with having scissors as hands, much as his father did. Edgar ruins many things from a game of football to his job at the deli.
Kim notices that Edgar wears a VR headset to drive. So, she decides to get him a car that provides hand-free driving. The commercial ends with Ryder saying, “Edgar drove off into the sunset.” However, Edgar manages to make it home in time for dinner, which shows a happier ending than the original did. Check out the moody yet fun commercial in the video below.
Some noticed how uncanny Chalamet’s resemblance is to Depp’s Scissorhands character. He perfected his look and mannerisms. The trailer also pays homage to the original film. Chalamet perfectly captured the original character’s detachment from normal life. For fans of both Edward Scissorhands and Chalamet, it’s a chance to see the actor shine again in this classic film.
What does Tim Burton think of the Super Bowl ad?
According to ComicBook.com, David Shane directed the ad. Tim Burton did give him the green light to film the concept.
“It’s rare when a work you’re proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years,” Burton said at the time of the ad’s press release. “I’m glad to see Edgar coping with the new world! I hope both fans and those being introduced to Edward Scissorhands for the first time enjoy it.”
Fans of Timothee Chalamet are also happy to see him again. Some assumed his big break would come to an end after the news that his latest film, Dune, was pushed back. The 25-year-old is one to watch. Chalamet is best known for his roles on Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name.
But some fans are comparing his acting to Johnny Depp. Chalamet will eventually have his own moment when he debuts in Dune in October 2021. But this commercial would be the perfect lead to a follow-up to Edward Scissorhands since reboots are trendy right now. But a sequel version has not been confirmed, not even thought about.
