Prince Harry Fights Back At British Tabloid’s False Claims

Chanel Adams

Prince Harry made a shocking revelation amid his fight against the British tabloids. According to his lawyers, one U.K. newspaper had an adverse effect on the mental health of the Marines. It got so bad that it “caused huge damage to his reputation,” which left marines “susceptible to suicide.” The Duke of Sussex is suing The Mail on Sunday for libel.

The newspaper accused Harry of betraying the Royal Marines in an October 15, 2020 article. Harry served as captain-general until he and his wife Meghan Markle announced they were stepping back from their senior royal duties. The couple has since embarked on their new life in America. And it doesn’t look like they’re going back.

His lawyer makes new shocking claims

Per Newsweek, Prince Harry has “not been in touch by phone, letter nor email” with the Royal Marines. The British tabloid slammed him for dropping them in the middle of his royal duties. However, Harry’s lawyers called the report a “barely researched and one-sided article.” The damning story caused him to doubt his commitment to the Royal Marines.

The filing revealed that the military community will become “more susceptible to suicide” since it could impact his ability to promote mental health services. It’s the same tabloid that Meghan Markle sued for privacy and breach of copyright of a letter that she sent to her father, Thomas Markle.

“[Prince Harry’s] sincere ambition is to continue to help current and former military personnel by using his reputation and the platform he has as a result of his military service,” the court filing read. “This role substantially depends upon [Prince Harry] using his reputation to help such causes by attracting public support for them.”

The filing then added that the “allegations” would “seriously hamper his ability to do so” and “have an adverse effect upon the people he is seeking to help.” It argues that Harry is doing his party to help the military community even though he left the royal family in March 2020. He will continue to use his platform “to support and encourage current and former military personnel help seek help for mental health problems.”

Prince Harry continues to advocate for mental health

Despite leaving the Royal family, Prince Harry continues to advocate for mental health care. Both Harry and Meghan have made it clear that they will redefine their roles in terms of philanthropic efforts. Harry has been passionate about many issues, including mental health. He started the Heads Together organization alongside his brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.

Since then, Harry will continue to talk about mental health. Last year, Harry and Meghan spoke out about mental health during the coronavirus pandemic. He even helped launch a free mental health website called HeadFIT. The program focuses on both active and retired military members but is also available to members of the general public.
