Justin Bieber shut down the reports that he’s studying to become a minister. The Yummy singer has no desire to be part of the Hillsong Church. The 26-year-old took to his Instagram Story to clear up some rumors. This comes after Page Six reported that he’s studying to be a minister at Hillsong Church in New York City, which is a famous megachurch that’s attracted most of young Hollywood.
He was said to replace fallen pastor, Carl Lentz. The report came two months after the church fired him for “moral failures” and “breaches of trust.” Lentz also admitted that he was unfaithful to his wife. The report originally came from OK! Magazine, which is a tabloid.
Justin Bieber quashes rumors
On Monday, January 4, Justin Bieber took to his Instagram Stories to deny the rumors. He shared a screenshot of the Page Six headline from last week. He wrote in all caps: “I’M NOT STUDYING TO BE A MINISTER OR ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE TO THAT. HAVE NO DESIRE FOR THAT THIS IS FAKE NEWS.”
Bieber also revealed that he’s no longer part of Hillsong Church. Instead, he attends worship at Churchome.
“Church is not a place. We are the church,” he continued. “We don’t need a building to connect with god. God is with us wherever we are.”
Then Bieber had a special message for his fans and followers. He told them that God created them and they’re “a part of the plan.” Bieber assured his fans that God is with them and is “not mad” if they have turned away from the church. It seems like the singer himself has dealt with similar struggles since leaving Hillsong Church.

Per Vanity Fair, Churchome is another celebrity-frequented nondenominational megachurch that believes “that Jesus perfectly reveals the true heart of God.” Bieber continues to distance himself as Hillsong Church finds itself in an upward battle. Two of the megachurch’s lead pastors, Reed Bogard and his wife Jess Bogard announced their departure during their Sunday sermon.
