Taylor Swift had a big surprise in store for her fans. On Thursday, December 10, she announced her ninth studio album, Evermore. This comes after her quarantine album, Folklore, which she dropped back in July. The superstar singer has been busy recording new music in lockdown.
On early Thursday morning, she took to social media to announce her new record. The “Cardigan” singer referred to it as Folklore’s “sister album,” which is set for release at midnight on Friday, December 11. Five months ago, she dropped her eighth studio album and she’s been re-recording some of her old music.
The singer isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Taylor Swift shared surprise announcement
Evermore includes tracks with Bon Iver, HAIM, and the National. This is exciting news for fans who enjoyed the National-inspired sound on Folklore. Taylor Swift revealed that she “couldn’t stop writing songs” while in quarantine. She also worked with Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff on this project.
At the same time as the album’s release, Taylor will also drop her new music video for “Willow,” which is giving off major bridal vibes. This comes after fans speculated that Taylor is secretly engaged to long-time boyfriend Joe Alwyn. She has dropped hints about marrying him in previous songs like “Endgame” and “Paper Rings.” Did the two seal their love this time around?
But for now, it’s all about the music. The Grammy-nominated singer shared the details behind Evemore and how it came together. She had more ideas, which led to Side B of Folklore.
“To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music,” Taylor spoke of her music. “We chose to wander deeper in. I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released.”

She added that she “loved” working on this new songs. She also included the initials “WB,” which stands for William Bowery, a pseudonym for her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.
Taylor also added: “We’ve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around…”
“Betty” singer wanted album release around her birthday
On social media, Taylor Swift shared the tracklist from Evermore. She shared that she wanted to release her new album around her birthday, which is on December 13. As fans know, her favorite number is 13. She wrote that she always looked forward to her 31st birthday ever since she was 13 years old.
It’s interesting consider Folkore is one of her most mature albums yet. However, it uses a lot of high school imagery to tell the story of a love triangle. But that’s not the only stories that Taylor shares on Folkore. She also has tracks about her grandfather and Rebekah Harkness.
Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now. You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something! pic.twitter.com/wATiVSTpuV
