People all over the world are familiar with the name Amanda Knox. She studied abroad in Italy and fell in love. But then the unthinkable happened. In 2007, someone brutally murdered her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Investigators immediately thought Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito committed the deed. Rudy Guede was ultimately tried and found guilty for the murder, however. He was recently released from prison, and Amanda Knox is speaking out.
Amanda Knox Penned A Blog Post Describing Her Feelings
In a recent blog post entitled “He Killed My Roommate, Blamed Me, Now He’s Free,” Knox said that she felt Guede never adequately paid for his crime. She also doesn’t feel that it’s fair everyone knows her name and not his. After all, there are several documentaries and films about the case. Each one of them sensationalizes Amanda Knox’s name. Even seasoned true crime fans generally have a hard time remembering Rudy Guede’s name.
“And, of course, Guede’s name is not the one associated with his atrocity,” she said. “Few people even know his name. Instead, they know mine. The only reason most people know I exist is because of what he did.”
Since Amanda Knox left prison, she’s been a fierce advocate for prison reform. She earnestly believes no one is beyond help. A second chance for Rudy Guede is possible in her eyes. She just wants him to acknowledge the gravity of his crime and how his actions changed her entire world.
“I am not upset that Rudy Guede is free. I’m not upset that journalists who continue to vilify me to this day are instead humanizing him, quoting his lawyers who claim he is ‘calm and socially well-integrated.’ I’m not upset that he is being given a second chance. I believe, as Bryan Stevenson has said, that everyone is more than the worst thing they’ve ever done. I believe that even Rudy Guede deserves a second chance. But I am upset,” Knox continued. “I’m upset that he’s never acknowledged his crimes, that he’s never been held fully accountable, and that I continue to bear the burden of his infamy.”
A lot of headlines claim I "slammed" the release of Rudy Guede, Meredith Kercher's murderer. False.
Make no mistake – Guede has not been held fully accountable for his crimes – but my feelings about his release are complicated.

She Wants Rudy Guede To Accept The Blame So She Can Move On
Knox went on to say that she believes people will continue to associate her with the murder until Guede speaks up and accepts the blame.
“…I will continue to unjustly bear his infamy, be held accountable for the Kercher’s grief, be shamed for not showing remorse for Guede’s crime. He could end all that in a second. I doubt he ever will, but the day he does, I will celebrate his rehabilitation and wish him the best on a new and honest chapter of his life,” she wrote.
After her nightmare in Italy came to an end, Amanda Knox returned to the United States. She finished her education and began to write a book about her ordeal. Unfortunately, most of the money earned from the book went to pay her legal fees. Today, she also hosts a podcast, The Truth About True Crime. If you’re a fan of true crime, it’s definitely worth listening to.
