Attorney General William Barr May Step Down Before President Trump’s Term Is Up

President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration day is in 44 days. That all means sitting President Donald Trump has 44 days left in his own presidency. But even so, rumors swirl that Attorney General William Barr will step down before the term is over. Barr has been fiercely loyal to President Trump from the beginning. But their relationship seemingly soured through the 2020 election.

AG William Barr Found No Evidence Of Widespread Voter Fraud — President Trump Doesn’t Like That

It’s no secret that President Donald Trump isn’t happy about the election results. Since the major networks called the race for Biden, President Trump firmly stated that it had to be a result of voter fraud. But recently, AG Barr went against the president and said that the justice department found no signs of voter fraud that would have changed the election results.

The New York Times seems to believe that AG Barr may even resign before 2020 ends. Sources close to the Attorney General allege he considered resigning even before his announcement. Should that happen, Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen will take over the role until President-elect Biden’s inauguration day.

Over the past four years, President Trump has been known to fire staff members who so outwardly went against him. William Barr isn’t even his first Attorney General. To date, President Trump has replaced his original Attorney General, original Secretary of State, and replaced both his FBI chief and National Security adviser twice. This is practically unheard of in any first term.

A reporter recently asked the President if he still had confidence in the Attorney General. The President replied, “Ask me that in a number of weeks from now.”

But Will The President Actually Fire The Attorney General?

Other high-ranking politicians quickly took notice of the growing tension between President Trump and AG Barr. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer even joked, “I guess he’s the next one to be fired.”

We even wrote a piece last week that said the President is contemplating firing AG Barr. President Trump is reportedly seething that Barr went against him.

However, The Independent reports that President Trump’s advisors have told him not to fire AG Barr. He’s been an incredibly vocal supporter and with 44 days left in office, it wouldn’t be a good look to let him go. If AG Barr leaves, it will need to be his own decision. But that doesn’t mean the President won’t pressure him, of course.

It’s hard to say exactly what could happen here. But one thing is certain — the situation doesn’t bode well for William Barr. Whether AG Barr leaves of his own accord or the President fires him, we will likely know soon. The clock is running out and the Biden administration will take over in just over a month.
