Jimmy Fallon Told Barack Obama He Couldn’t Pull Off This Popular Song

Barack Obama appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show and talked about his previous two appearances. Jimmy mentioned the first time he’d been on the show at the beginning of his presidency had been a lot different than the last time.

On the first appearance there was a segment called, “Slow Jam the News.” He’d asked Obama to just go, “oh yeah.” The then president said, no. I’m not going to do that.

What Did Barack Obama Do Differently On The Second Appearance

The second time Barack Obama was on the show they did “Slow Jam the News” again. Jimmy asked him to sing Rihanna’s hit, “Work.” Obama said, he should sing it looser, the way it is supposed to be sung according to People.

Jimmy laughing said, “I was telling you no, no, no. You’re this close to leaving the White House. Don’t do that now.”

Obama said, “are you saying that would have affected my legacy. Because that is a jam, and I know that jam well. I’m a little insulted you didn’t think I could pull it off.”

Jimmy Fallon Continued To Have Fun With The Former President

As the interview continued Jimmy reminded Barack Obama of some other experiences they’d had together. He said the same night he introduced him to Madonna and she was flirty with him. Jimmy said Obama was professional and said, “nice to meet you.” Jimmy said he was like – that’s the way to do it.

Jimmy also said that Obama has a Spotify playlist with his new book. He wanted to go over a few of the songs. The first was Etta James’ “At Last,” cover by Beyonce. Barack said that Beyonce sang at the inauguration. “That was our first dance and it was spectacular.”

Barack also said Bob Dillon did a concert for him and he was exactly how he wanted him to be. He said he showed up literally moments before they are supposed to go on. Walks off stage nods at him and then leaves.

Obama said, “don’t think you elected a fool. I knew. I knew how to handle my business.” The former president also talked about how music influenced him as a kid.

He Said Music Kept Him Company As An Only Child

Barack Obama said, “I don’t come from a musical family, but I think partly because I had such a strange childhood.” He said his dad was from Kenya and lived in Hawaii and Indonesia. His mom was from Kansas. That meant moving around a lot.

He said, “I was an only child until I was 9 so I think music is one of those things that keeps you company. It becomes a way for you to connect with other people.” He said the first two albums he bought with his own money were Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book and Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”
