Kristen Stewart appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and discussed playing Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic, Spencer. ETOnline shares the details about the interview. Including some strong emotions Stewart has about portraying Princess Diana.
Kristen Stewart shares her feelings about playing Princess Diana.
One of the more emotion-provoking statements Kristen Stewart makes about her role as Princess Diana is that she feels “protective of her.” “It’s hard not to feel protective of her. She was so young.” Heartbreakingly, the late Princess of Wales died in a car accident in 1997. Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother was just 36-years-old at the time of her death.
ETOnline notes that at the time of this historic event, the Twilight star was only seven years old. Admittedly, she “didn’t know what was going on.” However, Stewart acknowledges that she has some memory of Princess Diana’s death. For example, she says she “remembers seeing the flowers and mourners that gathered outside Buckingham Palace.”
In addition to acknowledging that she was young at the time, Stewart also mentions that she “didn’t grow up with her maybe in the same way.” However, it seems that Stewart still has some sort of emotional connection to the late princess.
Furthermore, it appears that she wants to do her role as Princess Diana justice. Stewart goes on to say, “My movie takes place over three days, and it’s this really poetic internal imagining of what that might have felt like rather than giving new information.” Additionally, she says, “We kind of don’t a have a mark to hit, we just also love her.”
What we know about Spencer
Seemingly following the trend of telling stories about the British Monarchy, Spencer depicts just three days in the life of Princess Diana. This should be interesting as it comes on the heels of Season Four of The Crown which gives insight into Princess Diana’s life.
The three days in which Spencer takes place is towards the end of Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles. According to ETOnline, Prince Charles is spending the Christmas holiday at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate. With this information, ETOnline deduces that Prince William and Prince Harry will be young boys in the film.
However, filming a movie about such a high-profile figure isn’t without its struggles. Earlier, Kristen Stewart tells InStyle that she struggles with the princess’s accent. Stewart describes the accent as “intimidating as all hell.” Further proving that she wants to do a great job with this role she says, “People know that voice, it’s so, so distinct and particular… I”m working on it now and already have my dialect coach.”
While fans may be on the edges of their seats waiting for the release of Spencer, it is comforting to know that Kristen Stewart takes her role as Princess Diana very seriously.
