WWE heavy hitter Matt Hardy made it known publicly via his YouTube channel On Monday, March 2, 2020, that his contract had expired. He also said that he decided not to sign a new one. Instead, he was going to become a free agent this time around. That includes Matt exploring what was going on with other organizations such as ROH and the new kids on the block AEW.
WWE: Matt Hardy Not Going Back
Matt stated in his YouTube channel that part of the reason for his decision was due to WWE unwilling to work with him. They did not give him the creative license he wanted to take his character in a different direction.
Matt and his brother Jeff Hardy made a triumphant return to WWE at WrestleMania 33. These brothers recaptured the RAW tag team championships. The sibling duo has had some moderate success since then. But issues with Jeff have left Matt on his own for the last few months.
Matt Hardy Takes Off In Different Direction
In his final work with WWE, he began a feud with Randy Orton over Orton’s actions with Edge. This led to fans watching in horrified silence as Randy took Matt out with a one-man Conchairto. This came after Matt confronted the tortured superstar about his actions against both men’s long time friend.
Matt’s departure from the WWE has been a rumor for the past few weeks. There also has been some talk suggesting that he was not happy with the direction that WWE was taking his character. It also seemed that without Jeff the company didn’t have a spot for Matt. He wasn’t being used much on TV. So, all these factors could have also played a role in his decision not to sign a new contract with the company.
WWE: Not Ruling Out Never Returning
Matt Hardy did say that he was not ruling out a return to WWE at some time in the future. He let the WWE universe know that he appreciated all the love and support that they had shown him. He also promised to keep them updated. We wish Matt the best in his future choices.
