‘Frasier’ Reboot Confirmed At Paramount+, Kelsey Grammer Returns

Nikole Behrens

Get ready, Frasier fans! Your favorite television psychiatrist is coming back in a reboot, Paramount+ confirms. Kelsey Grammer plans to reprise his role as Dr. Frasier Crane, TVLine confirms.

“Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” Kelsey Grammer said in an official statement. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli will join Kelsey Grammer as the show’s executive producers. Harris and Cristalli will also write and serve as showrunners.

Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling,” CBS Studios president David Stapf said. “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can’t wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount+.”

Frasier Is Coming Back — But Which Cast Members Will Return?

You can’t have a Frasier revival without Kelsey Grammer, so fans are happy to know he will be on board. However, no one is sure which, or if any, of his former co-stars will return. David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin all have other projects under their belts. John Mahoney died in 2018.

Fans expect that the actors will decide whether or not they plan to return soon. Jane Leeves even recently commented if there is a Frasier revival, she won’t leave her current project, The Resident.

Entertainment Weekly recently asked Leeves if she knew anything about a Frasier revival. She replied,

“I have no idea, but I won’t be leaving The Resident to do that if it happens. There’s a lot of pieces that have to come together to make [the revival] happen.”

Leeves didn’t say that she wouldn’t join the revival — she just won’t leave The Resident to do it. It’s possible she could find time to do both.

When Can Fans Expect To See The Project?

Deadline speculates that the show won’t hit Paramount+ until 2022. So there is still plenty of times for the other actors to make up their minds.

TVLine confirms that Paramount+ plans to start working on the Frasier revival when Kelsey Grammer finishes working on another project with Alec Baldwin.

Now that Paramount+ confirmed the reboot, more information will likely come in the upcoming weeks and months. Stay tuned for more — we’ll let you know as soon as we know anything else.
