‘Roseanne’ Star Clarifies Reason Behind Canceled Reboot, Comedy Has ‘Consequences’
Roseanne ran for nine seasons before it ended in 1997. Then, when every show was experiencing a reboot, the hit sitcom came back for a tenth season in 2018. Unfortunately, for fans of the series, the show’s lead made controversial, racist comments, leading to her firing. Now, one of the show’s stars is speaking out and clarifying the reason behind its cancellation. Was it justified, or should ABC have been more lenient? Keep reading for more details.
Roseanne Gets Fired, Whole Show Nearly Ends
When the reboot was announced, fans were thrilled. It did not end on the best note, as it turned out the whole series was a book that Roseanne had been writing. Moreover, they killed off John Goodman’s character of Dan Conner, which broke viewers’ hearts. They could not believe anyone would do that and hoped for redemption with the show returning, there would be redemption. There was, and it was a hit, but before an eleventh season could begin, the series’ star made a racist comment.
The comedian compared Valerie Jarrett, who was President Barack Obama’s advisor, to an “ape.” These words got her fired from her own series, and the show was rebranded as The Conners. It was rebranded simply so that everyone who worked hard to bring the show to life could keep their jobs and would go on to last for seven seasons. Michael Fishman starred as DJ Conner in the OG series as well as the reboot. He recently received a comment from someone who stated that Roseanne was a comedian. Therefore, she should have been allowed some freedom in what she said:
- The reboot got canceled because Roseanne made the usual jokes a comedian makes but America decided to backstab Roseanne. At the time the LGBTQ and woke crap took over and started destroying anything it could. Roseanne was one of the people that all of a sudden got flack for remaining to be a edgy comedian. Funny thing is even if she was racist, she had already said more egregious jokes and nobody batted an eye before.
That Does Not Fly
Michael Fishman shared this comment and made it clear that there is a difference between comedy and cruelty. What Roseanne wrote about Valerie Jarrett was cruel, and she had to know that there were consequences for her actions. However, Michael did note how much he loves Roseanne, despite what she said. That was his television mother, but he has tried to stay quiet for years, to no avail. Finally, it was time to say something.

There were a lot of questions for Michael, and he obviously cannot answer them all at once. Yet, he did note that he never stopped loving her, but he also could not stand behind her bad behavior. That has always remained solid within him.
