Upcoming Horror: 5 Scary Movies Releasing April 8-15

The month of April has positioned itself to deliver some solid shocks. Though often the most popular films are released in theaters, the horror genre dominates streaming services. Choose or Die’ drops on Netflix on Friday, April 15. On the same day, ‘The Cellar’ will be available to stream on Shudder. On VOD, Godforsaken,’ ‘Comedy of Horrors,’ and ‘Wyrmwood: Apocalypse’ will be released to stream. Here is a list of 5 upcoming horror movies releasing over the next week.

Upcoming Horror:

Godforsaken- April 8 (VOD)
Synopsis:
“An indie filmmaker visits his hometown to attend a childhood friend’s funeral. At the wake, the friend rises from the dead during her wake with mysterious abilities. The filmmaker and a group of friends begin to investigate as they try to get to the truth. Some claim she is God; some claim she is pure evil. They soon learn that not all miracles are holy.”

Comedy of Horrors Vol. 1- April 12 (VOD)
Synopsis:
“A substitute teacher arrives to read her new students her favorite storytime book. Included in the book are stories about police clowns trying to track down a serial killer. A famous puppeteer haunted by his blood craving creation, a group of self-absorbed Gen Z bride’s maids who turn on each other to determine who becomes the maid of honor. And finally, the story of a movie superhero who fights to save his soul from a special effects voodoo master.”

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse- April 14 (Shudder)
Synopsis:
“This sequel picks up the action in a zombie-infested Australian wasteland where soldier Rhys has dedicated his life to tracking and capturing survivors for the Surgeon General in hope of finding a cure.”

Robert England drops in

Choose or Die- April 15 (Netflix)
Synopsis:
“A broke student who, in pursuit of an unclaimed $100,000 prize, plays an obscure 1980s survival computer game. After a series of unexpectedly terrifying moments, she soon realizes she’s no longer playing for the money, but for her own life.”

Look Out For: Robert England is part of the cast, so Freddy Krueger fans should be on the lookout in this upcoming horror film.

Upcoming Horror: Shudder’s latest

The Cellar- April 15 (Shudder)
Synopsis:
“Keira Woods’ daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house. She soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.”

Notable: ‘The Cellar’ is based on the 2004 short film, The Ten Steps,  also written/directed by Brendan Muldowney.
