Recently, Brian Laundrie’s attorney addresses the fact that Laundrie flew back home to Florida. This comes after he and Gabby Petito encounter law enforcement for an alleged domestic disturbance. Why did Laundrie return to Florida? Did he go back to Gabby after? Keep reading to find out more.

Why did Brian Laundrie fly home after police ordered separation?

Brian Laundrie’s attorney, Steve Bertolino shares that his client flew back to his parent’s home in Florida. Laundrie arrives five days after he encounters law enforcement with Gabby Petito in Moab, Utah. Police were called on the couple because witnesses allege Laundrie was hitting Petito on the side of the road. When police speak with Petito, she says that she hit Laundrie first. At one point, officers on scene debate on whether or not they’re going to charge Petito with domestic violence. Before leaving, law enforcement decides to split the couple up for the night.

Five days later, Brian Laundrie flies back to Florida. According to Bertolino, his client made this trip to empty a storage unit. The attorney explains this seemingly odd errand as Laundrie wanting to save money for the cross-country van trip he and Petito were on.  In a statement given to News 4 a New York NBC affiliate, “Brian flew home to obtain some items and empty and close the storage unit to save money as they contemplated extending the road trip.”

The flight to Florida happened on August 17th. Things get confusing because on August 19th, Gabby posts a picture from inside her van and it looks like Brian was with her. However, it isn’t till August 23rd, he returns to Utah. Presumably to meet back up with Gabby. After that, there is a confirmed sighting of the couple in Jackson, Wyoming.

New information about the timeline of Gabby Petito’s murder

On September 1, Brian Laundrie returns to his parents’ North Port, Florida home- without Gabby. Ten days later, Gabby Petito is reported as missing by her family. At this point, they haven’t heard from her in about two weeks. Sadly, on September 19th her body was found not too far from where here and Laundrie were last seen in Wyoming.

The last time Laundrie was seen was Tuesday, September 14th. Now officials have reason to believe that their timeline may be off by a day. Bertolino confirms that “the family now believes Laundrie left to hike the Carlton Reserve on Monday, September 13,” according to an ABC 7 Chicago report.

Bertolino shares more on the timeline. “The Laundries were basing the date Brian left on their recollection of certain events. Upon further communication with the FBI and confirmation of the Mustang being at the Laundrie residence on Wednesday, September 15, we now believe the day Brian left to hike in the preserve was Monday, September 13.”

The FBI is continuing to gather information on this case. If you or someone you know has information about Brian Laundrie or Gabby Petito please submit the information here or call 1-800-CALL-FBI or 303-629-7171.
