Judge Brenda Penny Denies Britney’s Requests… Again
Yesterday, Entertainment Chronicle reported that the judge presiding over Britney Spears’ conservatorship had denied her requests yet again. On Wednesday, Los Angeles District Courts filed documents that reveal Judge Brenda Penny had officially denied Spears’ lawyer’s request to remove Jamie Spears from his position in the conservatorship. This decision came just one week after Britney Spears’ gutwrenching testimony. During the last hearing, Spears pleaded with the judge to remove her father after detailing the years of abuse she has endured. She also begged the court to please give her her life back.
Fans and legal experts find it extremely odd that after several months of the request sitting on the table, the judge just now decides to reject it – after she heard the testimony. According to Variety, the decision is not based on her testimony. Unfortunately, for Britney, Penny does not believe spears is capable of regaining autonomy over her life and finances yet. This is not the first time the judge has shot down spears’ request to boot Jamie from controlling the show. Britney’s lawyer also submitted a similar request two years ago, which was also quickly denied with little regard or consideration of Britney’s input.
Bessemer Trust Withdraws from Conservatorship
Today, there was an unexpected turn of events in the #FreeBritney debacle.
Bessemer Trust was appointed to the conservatorship by the court in November. Their role, according to court documents, was to oversee the financial side of Britney Spears’ estate. This came after accusations of abuse came up in regards to the celeb’s father, Jamie Spears. Previously, Jamie served as sole conservator over the entire estate.
Now, seemingly out of nowhere, the firm has filed an official request to withdraw its services from Britney’s conservatorship. According to NPR, the firm’s duties had not officially begun and they no longer wish to move forward. In their statement, however, the firm says that they were never issued ‘Letters of Conservatorship’. They affirm to the court that the firm is “not currently authorized to act, has taken no actions as conservator, has made no decisions as conservator, has received no assets of the estate [and] has taken no fees.”

Why Did Bessemer Trust Leave The Arrangement?
It seems the management firm might be hearing the singer’s cries for help. In the court documents, Bessemer Trust says before Britney’s testimony on June 23rd, they thought the conservatorship was voluntary. They also believed that Spears had fully consented to the firm stepping in as co-conservator. Obviously – the pop star’s testimony in court blew that theory out of the water.
As a result, Bessemer Trust is now removing itself from the equation. The company says that after hearing the ‘conservatee’ vocalize that she objects to the conservatorship as a whole, they do not want any part in perpetuating the situation. “Petitioner [Bessemer Trust] has become aware that the conservatee objects to the continuance of her conservatorship and desires to terminate the conservatorship. Petitioner has heard the conservatee and respects her wishes.” This, however, topples the current structure of the conservatorship and those in control will have to scramble fast to find a solution.
