WWE Raw 6/21: Rating and Ranking Every Match

Robby Steven

WWE Hell in the Cell is in the book and all eyes are now on the Money in the Bank PPV. On WWE Raw, Money in the Bank qualifying matches were set, including AJ Styles vs Ricochet.

Every match on WWE Raw will include highlight moments from the match and a final analysis. Each match will be given a star rating and be ranked from worst to best.

Matches Ranked from Worst to Best

6) Money in the Bank Qualifier: Asuka & Naomi d. Eva Marie & DouDrop
Highlight Moments: Eva Marie returned to WWE Raw earlier this month and did so with her new protege Piper Niven from NXT UK. Niven is now going by the name Doudrop and is being promoted as the morbidly obese woman opposite the in-shape Eva, so basically a Bobby Heenan Oinkette. Doudrop starts off using her weight and size to overpower Naomi before Eva Maire tags in for a pin attempt. Naomi kicks out to her surprise before giving Doudrop a hard stare. Naomi rolls her up for the win.

Final Analysis: Nothing to see here match-wise outside of the Eva Marie story, which is essentially Eva fat-shaming Doudrop. Doudrop, or Piper Niven, is very talented so hopefully, this turns into a solid push for her. Take a Pass. DUD

Mindgames continue

5) Money in the Bank Qualifier: Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross d. Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax
Highlight Moment: Alexa Bliss enters to new carnival music with Nikki Cross entering with blue and gold superhero gear. Bliss appears to use her mind tricks to stun Nia Jax allowing Cross to hit a crossbody before the commercial. Back from the break, Jax works over Bliss in the middle of the ring before tagging in Baszler who hits a stiff knee strike. After almost accidentally striking Jax, Baszler is hit with a back suplex by Cross. On the outside, Bliss attempts a mind control over Reginald and Jax and fails, but Cross gets the roll-up on Baszler for the win.

Final Analysis: Nothing to see here but more of the same from Bliss and a goofy Nikki Cross superhero gimmick. Take a Pass. *

WWE Raw: RKBro No

4) Money in the Bank Qualifier: John Morrison d. Randy Orton
Highlight Moments: The Miz accompanies John Morrison to the ring while in a wheelchair due to his ACL injury. Morrison gets a brief advantage early on with stuff kicks to the head before the actions heads to the outside. Randy Orton grabs Morrison and hits a release backdrop onto the announce table that doesn’t break. The Miz teases getting involved before shooting water into the eyes of Orton with the dripstick. Riddle runs to the ring to even the odds but inadvertently causes a distraction allowing Morrison to hit Starship Pain for the win.

Final Analysis: Haters will hate the decision but I’m fine with it as it continues the theme of upsets. The match was just fine but nothing special, but Skim It for some quick fun on WWE Raw. **

Upset city

3) Money in the Bank Qualifier: Ricochet d. AJ Styles
Highlight Moment: AJ Styles attacks early before Ricochet hops off the top rope to dropkick Styles to the floor. Ricochet attempts a moonsault from the top to the floor, but Styles moves allowing Ricochet to roll through to avoid a band landing. Styles whips Ricochet into the post before the commercial. The action goes back and forth as Styles regains the advantage. The Viking Raiders come to ringside and clash with Omos, sending him through the barricade. Styles attempts the Phenomenal Forearm but Ricochet reverses into a recoil for the win.

Final Analysis: Fun match that lets Ricochet finally get some serious time to shine. It likely means he’s in the MITB match for a few high spots, but it’s better than catering during WWE Raw. Worth a Watch. ***1/4

WWE Raw: Hell in a Cell

2) Hell in a Cell: Bobby Lashley d. Xavier Woods
Highlight Moments: Bobby Lashley attacks early with elbows in the corner and a neckbreaker. Lashley hits a closeline and a flatliner for a two-count. The action moves to the outside where Xavier Woods goes to town on Lashley with a steel cage before the commercial. Back from the break and Lashley charges at Woods who ducks and tosses him over the top rope. Woods attempts a baseball slide but gets caught in the ring skirt as Lashley beats him down. The action moves back in the ring with Woods using a kendo stick to his advantage before hitting a tornado DDT for a two-count.

Woods superkicks Lashley onto a table and then heads to the top rope. After springboarding off the top rope, Woods puts Lashley through a table with a big elbow. Lashley is able to bounce back with a spear and the Hurt Lock for the win.

Final Analysis: Good match but it did feel a bit repetitive after the previous Hell in Cell matches over the last few days. The use of kendo sticks and tables becomes overkill. However, both guys worked hard and the match was more than solid and Worth a Watch. ***1/2

Riddle steps up

1) Money in the Bank Qualifier: Riddle d. Drew McIntyre
Highlight Moments: Despite a few kicks from Riddle early on, Drew McIntyre maintained the advantage hitting a belly-to-belly suplex out of the corner. Riddle finally gets the upper hand knocking McIntyre off the ropes before hitting a standing senton. The action spills to the outside where Riddle hits northern lights suplex before the commercial. Back from the break and McIntyre hits multiple belly-to-belly suplexes before connecting on a neckbreaker. Both men head to the top rope where McIntyre delivers a stiff German suplex to Riddle off the top rope. Randy Orton appears on the entrance ramp before another commercial.

Back from the break as Riddle hits a sunset flip powerbomb off the top rope before a knee strike gets a two-count. McIntyre counters a Riddle charge into a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Future shock DDT by McIntyre gets another close count but Riddle is able to kick out. Riddle misses a floating bro but counters a claymore into a submission. McIntyre breaks free and hits a stiff headbutt before Riddle counters into a roll-up for the win.

Final Analysis: Great match as Drew McIntyre continues to but in work during the Thunderdome era, with Riddle shinning as well. Must-Watch. ****
